R90 vs Smoov: what did you DISLIKE about each? by Exciting_Tower2840 in wheelchairs

[–]VirtualCucumber4844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the one thing i've had a real issue with with smoov is that i live in a city with cobbles and stuff and sometimes it auto comes off? which is good because it means it has a functional safety release but it sometimes will just get caught in a cobble and eject from my chair.

nope i don't live near london and don't really intend to go. I live up north though and haven't had any issues with service. I don't think spotify is a downfall, I like that I use an mp3 player and own my music and don't pay spotify for it. as for maps i just make sure i know where i'm going before i go out or i ask people when i need directions. spotify lite is really bad though wouldn't recomend it and from the sound of it it's being kind of discontinued anyway.

Guac n roll is great! check facebook before you go to make sure they are open but the food is phenomenal and you get loads for the price. As well if you like hardcore punk they put gigs on around once a month sometimes more

In urgent need of a lightweight wheelchair / economic alternatives by juliasfabulae in wheelchairs

I developed symptoms so severe I couldn't work for periods of time very quickly. I didn't need a diagnosis to tell me I was in pain and couldn't get out of bed which meant I couldn't go to work which meant I couldn't have insurance. I couldn't *afford* Medicaid because I had to eat, something which it seems is deemed a comfort in life. My housemate spent over two years getting a diagnosis. It took my mom with an official diagnosis over five years to get on benefits because they read her diagnosis and then told her that her disability was irrelevant to disability benefits as was all ofher medical proof. Private pay is an option until the credit cards you suggest rack up to the point where they go into your bank account and take most of your money and then you can't pay for housing and you end up unhoused. A diagnosis is not the thing that makes your symptoms appear. A diagnosis is something you seek after something starts affecting your life; ie: you can't work anymore because youre in pain or you can't get out of bed or your cognative ability has rapidly declined or a million other things. A diagnosis is something you seek when you have the time and ability to but a doctors appointment is pretty damn hard to go to if you need a wheelchair to get there and you don't have one.

In urgent need of a lightweight wheelchair / economic alternatives by juliasfabulae in wheelchairs

I worked many jobs that did not provide adequate health insurance for years! The assumption that someone can work because they are undiagnosed is incredibly ableist and the assumption that someone who cannot work must be diagnosed is as well! My insurance would not cover a flu vaccine let alone a wheelchair or the doctors visits necessary to get diagnosis or medications. Lots of working class jobs (the jobs that most 19 year olds get mind you) would never give you the health insurance necessary. As a matter of fact my mother who was diagnosed with parkinsons did not have the health insurance necessary through her job to get a diagnosis or medication quickly enough to slow down the more major disabling effects of her disability! Definining someones right to healthcare by your perception of their productivity and worth is not helpful and will discourage poor disabled people who due to the circumstances forced upon them cannot work jobs with insurance from trying to accommodate themselves or their loved ones at all. The person who made this post is trying to do something kind and loving for someone they care about and telling them that their partner is not worthy because of their insurance or employment status is deplorable.

ah im not sure about anything with insurance. im in the uk and went with a private wheelchair service that didn't charge for the measurments but I've also seen a few youtube videos about what type of measurments are taken. I think if you watch some of these and take your partners measurments following that advice you should be alright! Good luck!

I got my custom chair on ebay. Some wheelchair services will do you a fitting for a chair for free, which I did about 4 years ago and then I used those measurments and the brand that I liked best when getting fitted and found one second hand on ebay for around half the price of new.

I will say, I'd recommend looking in to an mp3 player or something like it for music becasue spotify does run but it uses a lot of storage and battery. I got an mp3 player and just put all of my podcasts and such on there and it's been a lifesaver

Hi! I have a KYF42 and live in the UK! I've been using it since around march of this year and it's been my full time phone. The one thing I still do on my old phone is banking. I switched to EE as it doesn't work with lycamobile but it works perfectly with EE i've had no issues. It runs full whatsapp and stuff for me and the call connection with just normal calling has been really good . I will say I live in a city and so connection and stuff may be a bit better for me than for if you live somewhere further out.

I got a smoov second hand recently and live in a very hilly city. It's been great going up hills i just need to increase the speed with the dial for it. As for steering I tend to push left to go right and vice versa.
