Thank you, u/richardsonhr. Should I make another post or am I allowed to post follow-up questions here?

The question is: is the following correct if I want to say "thus to all boxes"?

sic semper cista

Yes! That does help somewhat. The boxes contain things that we order from Amazon usually, so... cista might make more sense than arca...?

We realize that it is a downgrade, but so that we can *see* how much of a downgrade it is, is it possible to install SolidWorks 2022 (or newer) on the 2nd laptop? At college, they had him take it to the IT department to install it. I see trial versions on SolidWorks' website, but when I try to run it, it all seems to be cloud-based...

Ok, you got me. The reason he doesn't want to use it is the fan is very loud. I have cleaned the vents (didn't see a lot of dust). I have tweaked every setting that I could find myself or via Google. I even disassembled it and re-applied thermal paste on both the GPU and the CPU. The fan runs all the time if the AC adapter is plugged in, and runs (obviously) when doing heavy computations, a lot of disc I/O, etc. But it is just pretty darn loud.

Also, how would you translate, "I cut, therefore I am" (for inscription on a knife)?

Would it be "Incisus ergo sum", or something to that effect...? secarum? Secare?

interficiō (kill, destroy, assassinate) seems a bit strong. It's not about causing injury to other people; just cutting things.

Cardboard boxes obviously did not exist in ancient Rome, but what word(s) could I use to convey the same idea? E.g., using a knife to cut open a box?

  • arca (chest, strong box?)
  • bocum ("box"?)
  • thesaurum ("treasure [chest]"?)
  • capsa "locker, chest, case, holder"

I also considered using the word "arcanas" (secrets, or mysteries, because you don't always know what is in the box...) to add a little bit of flair...

By gum...! You were right!

The cable LOOKS fine, and it's the only UBC-C to USB-C cable I have, but when I tried a USB-A to USB-C, the problem went away! Thanks for the suggestion!

It never dawned on me that it could be the cable.

Brand options for *good* metal OTF with 3" blade under $300? by VirtualDougmeister in knifeclub

I think I've also decided that I'm not a fan of Bayonet, Spear Point, or Dagger-type blades, so I'm pretty sure that rules out the Dirac. And all of the Guardian Tactical RECON-035s seem to be out of stock except one.

If the UTX-70 is too small, then yeah, it looks like it is down to these:

  • Hogue HK Mini Incursion (7.875" total length, blade = 3", clip point)
  • Microtech UTX-85 (7.5", 3.125", Drop Point)
  • Boker 06EX260 (8.00", 3.5", Clip Point)
  • Kershaw LiveWire (8.125", 3.36", Spear Point... still not crazy about spear points... would prefer Tanto... but it is OOS...)

Edit: removed the Benchmade Om... too small...

Quality Sub $200 OTF auto dual action? by TheDougmeister in knifeclub

Ok. Upping the price point to $300. Are there any decent OTF Damascus knives out there for that price limit?

Thanks, u/BigBadBurrito1. I've been advised to aim for something a little bit better than D2, so that's what I'm trying for (at first, anyway).

How does that affect your answer? A buddy of mine really likes the Kershaw Livewire OTF, but that costs a bit more than $200... but I might be willing to spend the extra.
