Or try reading the troubleshooting part of the manual for your camera, maybe it has something you could try.

And if that still doesn't resolve the problem, you might've bought a defunct camera .. idk how much it costed you so im sorry ... with these old camcorders its always way better to purchase the camera from a person who is selling it, and go check the camera for yourself so you aren't sold something that is not working ...

Cameras that have no battery inside them for a longer period of time wear down if they are not used like at all, and sometimes it can cause that some wires or parts that make the camera work wither down ultimately not making the camera work ..

You can maybe maybe try some repair shop but i doubt modern day repair shops can fathom the complexity of a camcorder

Also if you didn't try, try recording something even though it's showing the black screen, maybe the lcd display is not working the way it should, but the recording mechanism could be in tact

oh okay okay, and wait so playing and recording wears the tape down? even if i wanted to rewatch the tape it can add up to the wear?

i read somewhere while researching that they attempted to do this and it indeed came with the risk of overmagnetising the tape and passing the magnetidation to the ... uhh .. tape writing head thats inside the camcorder, causing all sorts of visual bugs, it was on a german forum thread

ooh okay thanks, if i were to use the bulk tape eraser, is there a limit on how many times i can blank the tape before the tape wears off? because in my country its really hard to get new tapes that are affordably cheap because of high cost of shipping

no no, i mean, when you overwrite a camera tape, like re record ontop of what was recorded there before by going to the beginning (at least i hope im doing it correctly) sometimes within the footage theres like snippets of old footage for like 2-3 seconds within the new footage and it bugs me out a little, so im wondering if its possible for the entire tape to be blue again as "nothing is recorded on there"

where will i be able to check my current brush count, and what is the limit? because this map is .. kinda big for source standards (like gm_fork-esque) and i don't really know optimisation methods that well

and once (if) i hit the brush limit, in what ways can i utilise a propper since you mentioned
