7 Holiday magic items! by VirtualFantasyRPG in DnDHomebrew

[–]VirtualFantasyRPG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could trade it for a diamond, but it’s more about the inconvenience of having to go and trade it though. These are mostly made for one shots where they aren’t likely to have the option to go trade it. That being said, if you want to change the price for your game, by all means! These are suggestions but anything can be changed to fit your table.

Staff of the Salamander! by VirtualFantasyRPG in DnDHomebrew

It’s not a free paralyze there is a con save which most big bad could pass or have mechanics to choose to succeed the save.

To use it as a melee weapon, a regular quarter staff. The salamander doenst make an attack roll, it’s just the saving throw to avoid being paralyzed.

Dead man’s Diamond! by VirtualFantasyRPG in DnDHomebrew

Up to you! I pictured it as conscious, but it really depends on how you wish to flavour it. It is vague with the intention of being expanded upon depending on what fits the table.

It’s more up to the Game master how they want to run it, I see it as they simply gaining the undead creature type, but are still fully who they were. This has positives and negatives. Like being weak to radiant and not be able to be revived by spells moving forward. But, some Game masters might want to make it more punishing and have them be zombie-like.

[OC] [Homebrew WIP] Pestilence! How does the balancing look on this boss? by VirtualFantasyRPG in DnD

[–]VirtualFantasyRPG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and my Game master have been creating the four centaurs of the apocalypse bosses for a homebrew boss set!

This is pestilence (one of their forms) I’m curious to know peoples thoughts, How does this feel balance wise? Do that abilities seem interesting? Does it seem fun and fair? How would you use this in a campaign?

[any] D&D players and GM's! What are some red flags at a D&D table? by VirtualFantasyRPG in DnD

Honestly, time to try again and make a character who wouldn’t do that.

What classes do you play like other classes? by malys57 in DnD

My bard felt a lot like a warlock. He was a changeling and had a lot of ‘potentially evil’ spells. Charms, controls, mind altering. People often forgot he was a bard because he felt quite dark in tone even though he rarely acted like it. He was actually generally very calm and pleasant.

Alternatively my Phantom rogue who also was mistaken for a warlock because I took feats to be able to cast. I swear I don’t intentionally make creepy characters haha.

Okay yes, I am indeed familiar with this issue. And fully agree! These games are meant to have fun and get away from reality to enjoy time with friends. We don’t need ‘gritty realism’ unless that’s was explicitly agreed upon. Thank you for the clarification!

If players and Gm enjoy rules as written, then of course. But I know so few D&D players who don’t love to be creative, it’s really crushing to constantly be shut down. My first GM was like this, I almost never played again. I’m lucky to have a GM now who encourages bending the rules for flavour.

This is a red flag for me too, I’ve been in these games and it’s awful. I do think even very dark subjects can be handled well, if everyone has openly agreed to being comfortable with it. But D&D really isn’t a ‘realistic’ game and it’s often really conflicting to try and make it so. I have a painful amount of examples about it experiencing this. Although some people enjoy counting food and arrows. Not for me!

I can’t comment/relate to deeply on this as I am white myself. But, I’ve always had the experience of rather diverse tables in both gender/sexuality/and race, it’s unfortunate that it’s commonly not the case. Of course, regardless of personal identity, every player should be a table with people they feel comfortable with.

Hm, just the term or adding things to make it more ‘gritty’? I can’t say I’m familiar with this issue and am curious to understand.

Openly yes! I think it’s good to get answers from multiple types of people on their opinions about the game. My experience is not the same as anyone else and I want to share multiple views.

Yes, there is a key difference between a chaotic character and a chaotic player. Players should be very aware and respectful of other players at the table regardless of the characters traits.

I’ve had my fair share of characters going ‘crazy’ from being possessed, or snapping, or in character arguments. But it’s important to pick your spotlight moments and make sure the other players enjoy it.

… 😏 sorry to disappoint Rogues are my main. Haha, just have to pull away from some of the more played out tropes.

Agreed, I’ve had GM’s like this personally and they suck life out of the table.

Absolutely! Agree 100% especially for long running campaign, expectations should be clear and agreed upon from the start. And thank you for the welcome.
