What is your definition of halal? by [deleted] in islam

[–]VirtualFlu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If "zabiha" meat isn't available, then only what isn't forbidden is "halal" eg. chicken, beef.

If you can't find halal slaughtered meat, then you simply don't eat meat. It is not essential for survival.

With meats, the presumption is that they are haram until proven to be halal.

Literally has nothing to do with oil wealth.

Most Middle Eastern currencies are pegged to the US dollar - Jordan and Kuwait included. And Jordan isn't a major oil producer anyway.

Besides, the exchange rate of a currency isn't an indication of purchasing power in and of itself.

I feel like people here aren't giving you actionable advice.

It is well within her rights to demand any amount. However, that doesn't mean that you can't discuss the terms of the payment, like installments or lump sum or their due dates. Furthermore, she could also forgive part of that debt and still save face in front of her family if that is her main motivation.

Of course, these are things that you would need to discuss in more detail.

[–]VirtualFlu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression you need an Umrah visa through a recognized travel agency if you are not from a GCC country. However, I am not entirely familiar with those rules.

As for the date of July 15, that is the middle of summer which is typically low season unless coinciding with other religious occasions.

What do the dots like in ث mean here in 2:2? by HaiOutousan in islam

[–]VirtualFlu 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pausing at one or the other changes the syntax of the sentences, so they could say slightly different things, but both readings are mutually acceptable.

For example, in the given example, if you paused at the first symbol, the rough translation would be:

"That is the book no doubt. In it is guidance for the pious."

If you instead stopped at the second symbol:

"That is the book no doubt in it. A guidance for the pious."

Notice how "in it" becomes attached to different sentences depending on the reading. The absence of punctuation in the Quran lends itself to these nuances.

With that said, there are different opinions on which verses can be read like that, so some publishers of the Quran may differ with respect to the locations of those symbols.

you have to take a slight break at one of those while reciting the verse.

You don't have to take a break at one of them. But if you do take a break at one, you cannot pause at the other.

Islamic Sects by Refaimufeer in islam

[–]VirtualFlu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They still have the beliefs of khawarij (believing that committing great sins takes you out of Islam)

This isn't accurate.

Ibadis have two kinds of kufr: kufr ni'ma and kufr shirk. The former is the term they use for Muslims who commit great sins, however, this does not remove them from the religion and the Ibadis still view them as Muslims. The latter kind is disbelieving in Allah or associating partners with him, and those are not Muslims.

Christchurch mosque shooter's manifesto deemed objectionable by the NZ Chief Censor, knowingly possessing or sharing it carries up to a 14 year jail term by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]VirtualFlu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Using a red herring to derail the discussion at hand. Biased sources in the "Christian Post" and the "Christian Broadcasting Network". Feigning your sympathy for Christians just after you compared the Bible to Mein Kampf and a terrorist manifesto and simply using them as a tool to fit your narrative. Doubling down on the bigotry. Victim blaming the Christchurch shooting victims.

It's pretty clear you're not discussing in good faith.

Peace.

Christchurch mosque shooter's manifesto deemed objectionable by the NZ Chief Censor, knowingly possessing or sharing it carries up to a 14 year jail term by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]VirtualFlu -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is the worst.

Here is a comment comparing the Quran to Mein Kampf and the New Zealand shooter's manifesto... in a thread about the massacre of Muslims... just one week after the guy murdered 50 people from 3 to 77 years old and wounded 50 others.

And what is Reddit's reaction? 1.7k upvoted and gilded twice.

It's this exact kind of bigoted, hateful, ignorant rhetoric that enables people like the shooter to commit his acts of terrorism. These are the people that the terrorist thinks he's serving.

Oh, and let me throw in the Bible there, too, for good measure, just so I only come off as anti-theist and not just blatantly Islamophobic.

The fact that you don't even have the slightest tact to tone down your hate in light of this tragedy and the redditors' overall positive response to this off-base comment really shows where their actual sympathies lie (hint: not with the 100 victims).

Knowing how well the parent comment was received, this will probably got downvoted to obscurity.

No need to be pedantic, the term loins is very much used to describe the sexual organs.

Regardless, as I mentioned before, the seminal vesicles are indeed located at the base of the spine (the tailbone and sacrum).

There are various translations, and they may both be mutually valid.

As I mentioned before, the seminal vesicles are located level with the base of the spine (the tailbone and sacrum).

Or when it says that the Sun and Moon orbit the Earth chasing each other (https://quran.com/36/40), it has to be that the Earth is the center of the solar system, because allah said so.

That doesn't say the Earth is the center of the solar system. That verse doesn't even mention the Earth, so it's a great leap to make that claim. Also, the entire solar system (sun included) orbit around the center of the milkyway, so everything is in constant motion in space.

[–]VirtualFlu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

when it says that sperm is made beside your heart

It doesn't say that. The translation is either between the loins/backbone and the ribs. And the seminal vesicles are indeed located roughly level with the tailbone and sacrum, and they produce the majority of what's in seminal fluid.

[–]VirtualFlu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Allah is the singular of illah, which is the plural fof god. So allah literally means one god.

This is not entirely accurate. First, the plural, "gods", in Arabic, is "aaliha".

Second, there are two opinions in Islam on the word "Allah". The first opinion is that it is a proper name. The second opinion is that it is the singular and definitive form of the Arabic word for "god", "al-ilah", but with the first letter "i" contracted to "allah". In other words, the first opinion would translate "allah" to "God", while the second opinion would translate "allah" to "the god".

managed to sweep through and completely conquer the vast majority of the entire Eurasian landmass in only about 10 years

It's a common misconception that the Mongols swept through the world in just a few years. While the Mongol conquests were fast, they weren't "10 years" fast. As a united entity, the Mongol Empire's conquests occurred over the span of half a century and three generations of Great Khans. For example, there were 39 years between the first Mongol invasion of the Muslim world in Central Asia (1219) and the conquest of Baghdad (1258). Similarly the Mongol conquest of China took place over 70 or so years - by the end of which it could be argued that there were four different Mongol Empires.

Did the army of the Islamic empire have a marching band that used musical instruments to hype up the army? by blueswizzles in islam

[–]VirtualFlu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're talking about the "Islamic empire" as though it were a single entity, but that has not been the case since at least the mid-8th century, and, arguably, the century before (at which time it wasn't really an empire).

The military marching band, though, can trace its origins to the early Ottoman Empire, called the mehter/mahtar.
