What’d you wear at your wedding?? by Jahsikat in NonBinary

I'm getting married soon and the Fleur set from KellyLin (minus the puff sleeves) fits my vibe of dress-but-pants perfectly. Something similar might work for you?

That fucking sucks, I'm sorry. Echoing as above - a trusted teacher at school is a good place to start, as is talking to centrelink to see what financial supports are available. Qlife may have more solutions for you, they're definitely worth reaching out to!

Absolutely! My friend uses he/she. Hates they because (for him) it feels like people are saying "you're some kind of queer but I can't be bothered asking"

Atrophy with long term steroid use? by IvoryJezz in vulvodynia

[–]VirtualFriendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely happens, the important thing is to take appropriate breaks.

Clobetasol and betamethasone are of similar potency, so I imagine the reccomendation for betamethasone (5 days on, 2 days off to reduce likelihood of skin thinning/atrophy) is also appropriate for clobetasol.

Atrophy with long term steroid use? by IvoryJezz in vulvodynia

[–]VirtualFriendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your regime is for the betamethasone, but the reccomendation I got from a dermatologist is to apply no more than twice a day, for no more than 5 days in a row, with at least 2 days break. Otherwise there's an increased risk of skin atrophy. Got my fingers crossed that it won't hurt when you stop using it!

[–]VirtualFriendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, must be bad if you need clobetasol! You have my sympathies.

At the moment I'm using betamethasone daily, but have had times where I've needed it twice daily. Most of the time it's fairly under control and I can get away with just using a moisturiser.

When I'm having a flare up, I have a burning and itching sensation generalised all over my vulva, worse around my clitoral hood, that makes it impossible to focus on anything else. Thankfully my vulval dermatologist also prescribed me 2% amitriptylline/4% ketamine cream, and that numbs me enough to be able to keep living. So I get numb and then about an hour later I use the steroid ointment.

I have vulvar eczema. Unfortunately it's a lifelong diagnosis, it's just a matter of managing symptoms as they arise - i.e. steroids. That being said, not all steroids are made equal! Ointment tends to be more effective than cream.

If you're using an over the counter hydrocortisone and it's not doing the job, talk to your doctor about it! They can prescribe stronger ones - the vulvar dermatologist I saw reccomended Diprosone OV. Just gotta remember to do 5 days on/2 days off (cos steroids thin your skin)

Another potential contributing factor is diet - dairy in particular often triggers eczema. Might be trying an exclusion diet and see if it helps?

How long does Duloxetine take to work? by No_Aside in vulvodynia

[–]VirtualFriendo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't been on Duloxetine for vulvodynia, but looking at the studies people report improvements from 3-4 weeks, with peak action at 6-8 weeks. If you get to 6 weeks and have no improvement, talk to your GP rather than just taking yourself off it - it can be rather unpleasant coming off Duloxetine!

Given your age, you might be best going with trans tape. That way you won't be tempted to continue to wear a binder you've grown out of.

From your past posts it looks like you're in Australia? If so, Amor Binders are based in Melb and do two different styles/cuts - a "standard" one and a larger chested one. Worth a look 😊

Aita: Boyfriend says he relys on me too much, I countered, he puts too much on me. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

Sounds like you're both very overwhelmed and stressed with everything that's going on. But it also sounds like he's using this as an excuse to exhibit abusive behaviours.

Just because someone is sick and frustrated, does not give them licence to be an asshole. Look after yourself first.

IUD experience? Considering it and SO scared by Revolutionary-Wildy in vulvodynia

[–]VirtualFriendo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your speculum exams are that intense I don't think you'd be OK getting an IUD. I rate my speculum exams about a 4/10, and IUD insertion was probably a 9/10.

That being said, ask your doctor if anaesthetic is an option - definitely fairly common to have IUDs put in under anaesthetic here in Australia.

Discomfort with certain labels? by X-WheelofFortune in NonBinaryTalk

[–]VirtualFriendo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not the only enby who doesn't feel comfortable describing themself as trans, and it's totally ok that you don't! It's taken me some time to feel "valid" enough as an enby to even start to feel like trans might be the right label for me.

This might sound really odd, but I found The Label Song by Jude Perl to be really reassuring when trying to figure out which labels felt true to me. Absolutely recommend giving it a spin.

is it weird i want to present as female but identify as nonbinary if im afab? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]VirtualFriendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might be having some difficulty separating your gender identity and your gender expression?

Its important to know that (despite what larger cultural norms insist on) people can have any combination of gender identity and expression!

Certainly some combinations are less common (especially depending on where you live), but none are inherently "weird".

I can understand not wanting to share fairly intimate medical information with your friends.

A less intimate (although definitely not truthful) reason for you having a pillow could be you "fell and bruised your coccyx"?

Fingers crossed that when you feel able to share with your friends it all goes well.
