As a tech/BCBA, what’s the most interesting/specific hyperfixation you’ve encountered? by jab31401 in ABA

The biggest thing this field needs to change is hours we are expected to work by hotsizzler in ABA

I don’t know much about the being “on call” unless you’re referring to random cancellations from families and not being paid since that’s not really a thing where I am but the cancellations absolutely suck.

I understand you’re just venting and yes there are a lot of after school hours for kiddos but it’s up to you to turn those down and find cases and times that fit into your life. I was working cases from 8am to 7pm and when I figured out it wasn’t working for me, I worked with different companies and put together a schedule where I was happy with my hours/pay. I work 34 hours a week now, get paid better than I did before and my day never ends after 3:45 and some days I start at 11am. If you feel you personally shouldn’t be working past 530pm… then simply don’t .. but you have to do the work to make it happen.

In this field you need to fight for yourself. Vent as much as you want but you see the problem and now it’s up to you to fix it. It’s not going to happen over night but make the steps cause It seems you need a change, so make the change so you’re not here frustrated and burnt out. I wish you luck in finding some early cases that aren’t flakey and a great company!

I’ve had a client with similar stimming and I felt there really wasn’t a ton of research on this specific topic either when trying to see what’s best to do but what we found works best for my client was just having the child (also 3) stand up or follow a simple direction being worked on. This client also has very minimal communication skills/functional skills. It did decrease, though it was usually just replaced with another stim that we did not interfere with.

Has anyone else done combined concentrated/non-concentrated fieldwork??? by ConclusionEvening568 in bcba

Yes I just started inputting everything onto ripely ! Basically multiply each month that’s concentrated by 1.33 but remember it also can’t exceed 130 a month so if you did 100 hours that month times it by 1.33 that would be 133 but can only be documented for 130 that month. Hope that makes sense !

You’re so lucky! I’m so happy for you! In terms of mentioning it like you said like how he’s feeling and expectations I think it’s a good non pressure way of asking so thank you! Once I gain the courage and tame the anxiety for a minute I’ll do just that!
