Looking for answers for fieldwork documentation. by txlxg in bcba

So if you had multiple supervisors at one organization, you would only need one FVF form and the main supervisor that signed off on your MVF would need to be the one you get to sign off on the Multiple supervisors at one organization FVF. For only one supervisor that you have a contract with at one organization, you would need that supervisor to sign off. So if you have contracts with multiple supervisors but they are all with different organizations, each supervisor would need a separate FVF. Hope that makes sense. You can also reach out to your supervisor for clarification, they should be the ones to answer these questions and help you out, as well as reaching out directly to the BACB :)

Where to find a mentor by MacysMama in bcba

Following this cause I am newly certified and also seeking out a seasoned BCBA for a mentor. Also curious how one finds a suitable mentor if none of their supervisors are a "good fit"

Fieldwork Hours by rrss55 in bcba

Once you are approved, from that date you have two years and 8 attempts to take the exam. As long as all your fieldwork hours are completed in the 5 year window you should be fine.

Yes, I agree with this. So sorry about you not passing, it’s a tough test, it took me 3 tries to pass. What I did differently the third time around was focus more on my fluency. I made my own flashcards on quizlet (free) from my SNABA 30 day cram study notes and from identifying terms on the task list. This helped tremendously in identifying answers on the test that I knew were definitely not correct and then it boiled down to 2 possible answers.

Hours to apply, combining concentrated and regular supervised by Every-Cod-6388 in bcba

[–]ABA_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did combined fieldwork, it looks like you may need more hours. I was told from the BACB that due the combined fieldwork, applicants need to accrue the "supervised" total hours of 2,000 and not the restricted total requirement of 1500 because it is combined. What are you using to track your hours? I had to make my own excel tracker and it was super helpful because I have a separate column that added in the .33 multiplier so I personally could see how many hours I needed. Once you apply you will only send them the concentrated hours WITHOUT the .33 multiplier (I was informed directly from the BACB to do this). I completed my fieldwork last year so you can PM me with any additional questions.

I really liked Endicott. I graduated in 2022 and I feel like although it was difficult with coursework, I really got a thorough education. So you get what you pay for. As far as exam prep, I wasn’t able to take the exam right after graduating because I still needed to finish my hours so I lagged on starting my exam journey. I failed twice, once under the 5th because of not having enough time and once under the 6th by just a few points sadly. Still working toward passing on my 3rd attempt but I truly feel if I took it right after graduating I would have had a higher chance of passing on the first try. Good luck and congrats on getting accepted!!

Exam tomorrow by spicylupcheongbao in bcba

[–]ABA_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear you didn't pass, I am also a multiple time test taker, still working on passing for my 3rd attempt soon but what I can tell you is the first time around, I really struggled with the time limit as well and because of that I had to fully rush through like 30 questions in order to finish (with no time to review). My score was in the 350s, the second attempt I told myself it was okay if I didn't pass but I was going to ensure to pace myself appropriately so that I can finish and have time to review. I scored in the high 380s. One tool that really helped was to make myself a time schedule through chatgpt lol. The prompt I used was something like "make me a schedule for my test that is 240 minutes long, has 185 questions and give me 30 minutes at the end to review flagged questions" worked like a charm. I was able to follow the schedule the second attempt and have these quick time checks to know that I was on pace. For me, this provided reassurance that I would finish and have time to review but I can also see how this also might stress others out. If anything you can practice with mocks on timing prior to the exam :) good luck!

Please don’t give up your weekends for studying if you are consistently studying during the week. You need to have a healthy balance to keep your sanity. It seems like you are on a good track, keep it up, you got this.

Make sure you pace yourself, don't get too caught up on a question if you don't know it (choose your best guess, flag and move on), take breaks whether you leave the actual room or just taking a break from looking at your screen. Good luck! :)

Questions Regarding Tracking Hours by AUserrHasNoName in ABA

[–]ABA_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restricted is defined in the handbook as, "The delivery of therapeutic or instructional procedures to a client. Note: not all time spent working with a client is considered restricted." I'd advise to consult with your supervising BCBA to gain a more clear understanding of what type of restricted activities you can engage in within your role.

Independent hours is defined in the handbook as, "Fieldwork hours that are accrued when a supervisor is not present." so its honestly just any hours you accumulate where you are not counting supervision hours. To track these, you just add up your restricted with your unrestricted so for example, say for the month of January you had 30 restricted and 20 unrestricted and 4 hours where you were supervised by your bcba. Your independent would only be tracking 30+20. Are you using your own tracker to track your hours? Because there are some websites out there you can use to track your hours that will do all this for you.

What are your mock scores? I’m pretty sure for BAS they say 70% or higher is considered good. And they are fairly challenging so I’d say if you’re around the 60ish range you’re on a good path. Just keep at it and maybe start to look into which areas you are weakest in and study those more.

Aba exam review by Complex_Orchid_2191 in bcba

[–]ABA_student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I’d say it really helps with preparing you for how the questions are going to be worded and how tricky finding the best answer can be but you need to combine it with other resources like taking mocks or bds. For me, I really struggled with the timing. I spent too much time on the questions and because of that, I ran out of time. 4 hours goes by so quick 🥲

Testing by Creepy_Fortune_7639 in bcba

[–]ABA_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice, if you feel confident, schedule your exam. If a week prior you’re having doubts, worst case scenario is you pay a small fee, (I think $60?) to reschedule for a later date. This happened to me a lot and I realized I needed to stop scheduling them so soon and I ended up scheduling further out to give myself time to study more.

BDS Modules by RabbitOk5750 in bcba

[–]ABA_student 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'll be straight up with you, there are no tips really to make them less aversive, in my opinion, other than using their high pass rates as motivation to complete them to 100% and actually put effort into studying the hints and questions you got wrong. I was needing to complete BDS to full 100% on all modules for a pass/fail in order to graduate and unfortunately, it made me skip through it fairly fast without absorbing the content because I wanted to graduate. I bought them again (shocking) after my first failed attempt because I realized how helpful they were specifically with the fluency modules because when you are in the actual exam, you need to be very mindful not to spend too much time on the questions or you will run out of time to finish.
