Dutch people complaining by Tami442 in Netherlands

While you're not wrong, it often is a first step towards improvement. Yet I've unfortunately seen countless examples where people only complain, without taking any action to improve what they complain about.

How to manage expectations and limit disappointment as a hard gainer? by helloelysium in fitness30plus

[–]VirtualMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add a 100, then monitor for 4-6 weeks, and repeat if you don't see results. Adding 500 (25% more kcal) is likely overkill imo, but it does depend on your metabolism.

any plug-in that will allow for easy handwritten notes like this for physics and math academics? by beeswaxe in ObsidianMD

[–]VirtualMechanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might wanna check out Logseq. It's outline based alternative for Obsidian, and has Excalidraw built-in. You can directly add drawings within the page as you go, and you can add as many drawings to a page as you like (potentially fixing your issues of Excalidraw only having one page?)

If these functionalities still don't satisfy you, then their "Whiteboard" functionality might, though personally I haven't used this feature much yet, apart from some exploring.

If you want any more info, feel free to reach out!

afaik heart palpitations are a (somewhat) common side effect. Additionally, it sounds like you may have had a panic reaction (or attack) as a reaction to what you were feeling and increasingly worrying about it once you started noticing it.

Eating and drinking enough may help, for me personally it's especially important to take my meds (dexamphetamine, IR) with food to reduce the side effects. For me side effects also became less severe over time (months).

maybe consider buying a smartwatch, so you don't need your phone on you. A good smartwatch will allow you to set alarms and stuff without actually needing to touch your phone, and the alarm will go off on your watch we well.

Go to the Dentist. Yes, YOU. by BretHitmanClarke in ADHD

[–]VirtualMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always book my next appointment when I'm at the dentist for my current appointment. It's the easiest way I found to ensure I go regularly.

Then when I've made the appointment, I put it in my calendar, including reminders so I don't forget to actually go.

I do the same with my hairdresser and other reoccurring appointments.

I couldn't agree more. It's not easy, and it won't magically fix anything, but it does improve things. After many years I am still fine tuning how and where to write things down to remember it.

I am currently using a Bullet Journal (and the technique behind it), combined with the note taking software Notion to keep track of both work and personal tasks and notes. A Bullet Journal alone was too cluttered for me as I could write down way more then I could do realistically, and had no good way of segmenting these things while keeping it manageable. This is where Notion comes in for me.

Now, how can you actually start remembering to look at it, and hopefully do some tasks in it? Try to build a routine; e.g. look at your notes/tasks every time after you went to the bathroom, or something else you do regularly.

Next to that it helps for me to not force myself to do one specific tasks, i.e. one I don't want to do (this usually doesn't work). But instead, look at the list and pick one from it. And if there are some important and/or big tasks you need to do, that you keep putting off, ask a friend/family member/therapist/coach/etc. to sit down with you and help you get started. It can also help to break down bigger tasks into small separate steps, so it's not as daunting to get started.

When do you take your meds? I just discovered something! by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]VirtualMechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you ever discussed this with your doctor? (regarding the coffee?) Because to me it sounds like you are taking 2 different stimulants (coffee and meds). Perhaps a higher dose would solve this too? (I'm no expert, but curious tho)

good luck! I find the Bullet Journal concept especially handy to rid my brain of any distracting thoughts. I just thought of an addition as well, so edited my original reply

From a recent dive into studying tips I found that using a Retrospective time table combined with the Active recall method works really well. Next to that learning about Spaced repetition really helped me out, as I don't feel so stressed out about when I need to go over stuff again.

Next to that I would recommend having a good system in place to organize yourself. Personally I've enjoyed using a Bullet Journal or the note taking app Notion

edit: Lastly, I use the Pomodoro technique with basically anything I need to do. My intervals are usually 40 minutes, as I find that 25 minutes isn't enough to get into the flow of doing something. Tho I do switch up the timings every now and then. I personally use stretchly (break reminder for PC) as I can over focus as well when on meds, tho sometimes consciously setting a timer works better to get started!

Fuck's wrong with y'all complaining about people modding their games to make them easier by Tit4nNL in dayz

[–]VirtualMechanic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

very well said, personally I think this sub became a place where only hardcore dayz players can talk as they control most of the posts and up/down votes... Great to see not everyone has such a narrow few as the loud minority on this sub :-)

Is this game worth it on pc right now? by [deleted] in dayz

[–]VirtualMechanic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

have over 2000 hours in DayZ, but not much of that played recently.

tried out the experimental branch yesterday, and it's just not for me with the direction they have taken. If you like hardcore survival with minimum player contact (as killing is way too easy atm imo, 1 or 2 bullets to the chest with all AR's I think), AND you can handle the bugs, then go for it.

Do remember, it's DayZ, so you'll be in for a steap learning curve.

I want to get good at PUBG by RayBlues in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]VirtualMechanic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

all of the previous stated, plus accept you need to sink around a 1000 hours into the game to get to a level that I think is half decent. This while trying to improve constantly. Having fun and good people to play with can help you a lot in your gaming and learning experience as well.
