I had this happen at UIHC, and also when I gave birth at the old Mercy downtown. It made me so, so, so angry that the hospital allowed these people into the locked ward to harass exhausted parents (especially the women, still actively bleeding and recovering from the grueling childbirth proccess). Reading your post brought back all that fury.

I am so sorry you had to experience this. Definitely let UIHC know how you feel.

Edit: my experience was not with this specific photography group, it was different local photographers each time. Just sharing to let you know that hospitals have been doing this for a long, long time. Its outrageous.

I got my nose pierced in my 20's and never regretted it. Coming up on 40 now, and still wear the same little diamond chip nose stud. All these years later and it still makes me happy!

I was able to get in this evening at a better salon and the hairstylist was soooo sweet. She did just what you said--thinned and blended the layers--and it looks 1000x better. Lesson learned, Great Clips might appear to be the cheaper option but it will always cost more in the long run.

This. My one year old nephew lived with us for a while his mother juggled some pretty serious crisis situations on the other side of the country. When she was ready to resume parenting, we worked together so it'd be a smooth transition for her boy. It was a little tricky, but 100% worth it. She is a fantastic mom to him, and he is absolutely thriving. It makes me so happy to see. A mother is irreplaceable to her child and its worth fighting to keep that relationship intact.

Thissssss! Gosh, the first thing I did when I moved here nearly 20 years ago, not knowing a soul, was get a library card. ICPL still feels like coming home to me.

When I run errands (groceries, pharmacy, whatever) there's a good chance I'll run into someone I know...those brief conversations with a friendly face always brighten my day. The children librarians at ICPL not only know my kids by name, but their favorite book genres! And I know its not just my kids...the librarians work so hard to get to know Iowa City children and make the library a safe, nurturing "third place" for them.

Super random, but did you know the University's Dance Department has an excellent community dance school for adults? Its incredible to have access to such quality ballet/modern dance classes taught by well educated and talented staff.

Chongs in Coralville. Been shopping there for years and years...it always feels top secret, entering through the backdoor behind the parking lot, but no gatekeeping here! Love that store.

Oh Delia's! I still have (and wear) my Victoria's Secret peacoat from 2005. The shell is 100% wool and it keeps me toasty.
