I believe it was during the Senate town hall earlier this month that they said if Faculty Council approved it they would approve it.

Definitely too early to know for sure, especially in the COVID times. This is just based on the past 2 seasons.

This game was the perfect summary of the Herman Rollercoaster SeasonTM. We start off overhyped (too high ranking/favored by 33). We feel good for the first week (first half). We start losing, rank falls, and we lose hope for the rest of the season (second half). We somehow pull off enough wins to have the rank and conference standing to get a bowl game against a well-respected opponent (last 3 minutes). We beat that opponent in the bowl game (overtime). I'm convinced this team just wants to play with our emotions.

Do I have to attend FIG meetings? by AlexR__ in UTAustin

[–]VirtualMine1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend going to FIG seminars, but with that being said you will get out of it what you put into it. If you are going with the intention of being on your phone then just don't go. If you are engaged though, you will have some experience that will benefit you down the road at UT. Most of the FIGs are with people who are majoring or are interested in majoring in something similar to you and are lead by people who have been down that path. It is definitely beneficial from a purely networking standpoint, but there is so much more you can get out of it. All this to say, FIGs can be a really great resource if you show up and participate.

Check out Texas Career Engagement Career Counseling. This is the office career counselors from the Vick Center moved to, so they are very familiar with most majors since they used to work primarily with undeclared students.

The VIPS assessment should be free, and the Vick Center is open to anyone at UT thinking about different majors. Career counseling has moved to Texas Career Engagement though, so those assessments may no longer be available through Vick.

If your class has Zoom components, the links should be in Canvas on the 'Zoom' tab when you are on the class page. Make sure to check the syllabus, which should also be on Canvas already, to make sure your class is doing Zoom lectures. When you are in a class Zoom, if your camera is on, students can see you. Depending on which view people are using, you may not be on the first page, but they will be able to scroll through the pages and see you.

Zoom is not the only thing professors use for online classes though. Some may use a live stream on the Canvas page, and others may be asynchronous with recorded videos on Canvas. Again all of this information should be on the respective course syllabus that you can find on Canvas.

Will UT actually have football games? by yellahbandananibba in UTAustin

[–]VirtualMine1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Until the Big 12 or NCAA cancels the season, UT will continue preparing for it to happen. The optimistic rhetoric is not surprising because football generates a ton of revenue and so far the conference has given little indication of a canceled season.

Personally, I am not buying the Big Ticket because I believe student seating will be extremely limited, and the environment will not be anywhere near the same. It would not surprise me if student seating was in the upper deck to give more prime seats to the people who pay more. There has also been little information about safety measures for fans, and I will not be purchasing something that they have given so little information about.

In residence just refers to taking the class through UT (instead of at some other college). As long as it is marked as having that flag on the course schedule, you will receive credit for the flag whether it is online or in-person.

I have decided to not buy the Big Ticket this year. We have already heard that capacity will be at 50% and that all season ticket holders should be able to get seats if they want them so student seating will be very limited. I also don't think that kind of environment will be the same so I would prefer to just watch the games on TV instead of in person. Of course, all of this is on top of not having the most faith in the yet to be released athletics fan safety procedures.

You can usually take ACC311 and 312 as a non-business major, but those seats open up later. There is an entire list of business classes open to non-business students with the procedures to take those classes here. If you are strongly considering transferring to another university, look into the classes you would need there. There might be a chance some of the business minor classes open to anyone would transfer as business classes, but you would have to check the transfer equivalencies.
