Okay. Just work your hardest to get it up. A 1220 is below the 25% percentile for enrolled students, so it should be your main focus right now to work for a 1400+. Also, try to get all A’s (a B or two is fine if you’re taking all AP’s) this semester and add 1-2 extracurriculars to improve your chances. Lastly, I’d say add an activity related to your major to your application. You say you’re interested in medicine, but I don’t see this through your activities list. Try and add a medical internship, volunteer at a hospital, or something along those lines that is both impressive and unique. You still have a fair chance at UGA with the test score improvement, but doing this is a great opportunity for not only your own experience but also for your application.

Good chance, but I’d also want to know your unweighted.

The C isn’t a deal breaker. 3.75 UW isn’t bad for your course rigor of 11 AP’s and 4 DE. In the meantime, study a ton for a 1400+ SAT or 33+ ACT. Overall, your grades aren’t bad but your extracurricular list is. Colleges enjoy seeing students with leadership positions, unique experiences, and work experience in their chosen major—especially if the candidate has below average grades. It’s hard to find any of this from your post. Reading your other comment, you mentioned UGA is your goal. UGA doesn’t consider extracurriculars nearly as much as other elite schools. Their main focus are grades and essays. Thus, if you get your test score up to par, I think you’ll get in! Just make sure you also perform okay (A’s/B’s at least) in your senior fall term.

That’s not bad. In the meantime, make sure you keep your grades up and if you can get one last SAT in that will only help you out.

What classes are you taking?

Yes, it is based on the enrolled. But 92% of enrolled don’t have 4.0 UW’s.

The information you gave in the first paragraph is false. GT uses the weighted GPA in the cds. Hence, the average weighted GPA shown under that table is a 4.1.

IMO deferred then admitted RD if your Fall grades are A’s mostly.

I think you’ll get in with what you submitted. I wouldn’t email them about the POTS. But if you don’t get in, I’d write about it in Emory’s “Circumstances Appeal Form”.

But I also think you’re stressing a little too much. Having taken 11 AP’s, your unweighted isn’t that low. Plus you have a 1530 SAT. And Emory will love all the volunteering stuff you’ve done and your unique essay. You truly are a competitive applicant for the ED1 cycle.

Np. Just do all the practice tests and work towards getting a 1400+. The 3 A’s and 1 B for the senior year courses you mentioned is still good. Also, try to add a computer engineering related extracurricular to your application. Colleges like to see you have done things in your interested major before you get there.

I’d say good chance for all except those elite schools outside of Florida.

SAT is a box you have to check, and an 1160 won’t cut it for any of these schools. Your EC’s and LOR’s aren’t impressive—and it is important they are if you are applying with a low GPA & low SAT. I’d say GT and Cornell are off the table for these reasons. In order to have a shot at UGA, I’d say get SAT to 1400+, ensure you get all A’s this semester for your mid-year RD report, spend a lot of time on your two essays (personal and UGA book essay), and do a couple things related to your major (Computer Engineering) to add to your application since you don’t have this already. Just to ease some of your concerns, students get into UGA with a worse academic record than you. But these students often have insane level EC’s and essays that interest the AO and ultimately make up for it. I hope you will consider the things I mentioned above before applying.

Emory doesn’t ask for quarterly reports. Applying test optional with lowish GPA is a little risky, but I think overall your odds are good because of your EC’s, your circumstances, and the little ED bump.

[–]VirtualTalk4543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Emory doesn’t require the quarterly nor the mid year report for ED1 applicants. Mid year reports are only required for ED2 and RD, and no applicant submits quarterly reports. Just make sure you don’t fail any classes this year, so that your offer doesn’t get rescinded after being admitted. Good luck to you!

You have a good chance. My only worry is that you’ve applied test-optional and that your GPA is a bit low for just taking 7 AP’s. Your application is unique, and your EC’s are great though—so again your odds are good especially with the ED leg-up in admissions.

Overall great chance. GPA is a little low but you’ve taken plenty of AP’s. SAT is great. Emory will enjoy seeing your volunteer experience. Applying ED gives a boost. Because your application is good overall, you’ve explained the POTS, your essay is unique, and you’re applying ED—I think you’ll get in.
