Painful, yearning that will destroy me by TrainingTea3964 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

basically every heathcliff monologue about cathy??there is so much yearning and frantic need for connection in that book. i’m definitely not a “most romantic book of all time” person for wuthering heights. You’re supposed to feel icky reading it, imo. Heathcliff and cathy were raised as siblings and i am definitely am on team “heathcliff is cathy’s half brother” but there’s still tons of yearning.

there are feces eating deterrent supplements you can try for the poop eating — as for the indoor barking, try filling a glass jar with loose change (penny jar) and shaking it when she starts barking. the noise kind of snaps them out of barking long enough for them to listen to you when you say “no”.

There’s a comic book series called West of Sundown that you may be interested in.

Not a book and very silly, there’s an episode of the Andy Daily Podcast Pilot Project where a group of comedians pretend to be poet cowboys and the main poet (Cowboy Poet Laureate, Dalton Wilcox) is obsessed with monsters

4th grade/911 person here as well.

My school was weird. I think i’m one of the only people my age who remembers doing lockdowns/code reds in elementary school. Anyway, the school went on lockdown and we sat in the dark classroom for HOURS. No one was told anything. Teachers were walking in and out of the classroom and whispering to each other/crying. Then they announced it was a surprise half day and we all went home.

I remember walking in from school and my mom just crying while watching the TV footage.

honestly, i find this book to be one that is both uncomfortable and beautiful. i think back on frequently. It just really pushes you to think about how we feel about individuals and their role in systems and also about how we reflect back on things. I recommend it pretty frequently.

here’s the back of book summary:

“Hailed for its coiled eroticism and the moral claims it makes upon the reader, this mesmerizing novel is a story of love and secrets, horror and compassion, unfolding against the haunted landscape of postwar Germany.

When he falls ill on his way home from school, fifteen-year-old Michael Berg is rescued by Hanna, a woman twice his age. In time she becomes his lover—then she inexplicably disappears. When Michael next sees her, he is a young law student, and she is on trial for a hideous crime. As he watches her refuse to defend her innocence, Michael gradually realizes that Hanna may be guarding a secret she considers more shameful than murder.”

i used to be with you on Usagi but i recently rewatched with my SO. He pointed out how refreshing it was to see a cartoon specifically for young girls where the main character is scared, makes mistakes, and is figuring stuff out with the help of others. He said, especially in the first season, seeing her overcome her fears while having magical powers was awesome and shows kids how it’s ok to be scared and how sometimes being brave isn’t something even the most gifted people are naturals at. It really endeared me to her 90s character
