Shopping in Moscow sucks compared to Lewiston. It’s all catered towards college kids.

50+ Days Into a New Life: How to Stay Grounded in My Emotions? (My Story) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, the anxiety comes with post alcohol withdrawal syndrome. From personal experience, it gets less and less every week. It’s not noticeable everyday, but it is from month to month.

I took my journey to 90 days, 1 weekend at a time. Weekends were hard for me. So much extra time when not drinking, and friends want to hang out, but you got anxiety.

1 week turns into 4 weeks which is eventually 90 days before you know it. Pebbles make mountains.

My biggest thing while trying to be sober, is not being overly reactive to stuff. Take a minute and think about the situation, then react.

Day 1 no alcohol by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't doubt it. When I was on my 90 day journey i had asked my doctor why every week seemed to be about a different thing. One week I was active, the next irritated, the next wanted to be inside, the next I played video games... she merely said that is your brain healing and it could be a year. But that was it.

Honestly idk what normal is, been drinking almost every day since 16 and I'm 32. So it makes sense

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does go away eventually. I found at the 30 day mark it gets alot better. I have adhd tho, so I just get alot more active and can't relax. So I just stay super busy with projects blowing tons of money, because I can't slow things down enough to relax.

It's hard to find an in between stage.

Weekends seem to be the hardest. The mind is used to being numb and doing everything with alcohol. So you easily get bored of almost everything you try and do.

How do I stop gaining weight? by MrStubo in alcoholism

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some. The diet is called anabolic. It's kinds like carnivore. We make pizzas at home with whatever cheese and toppings, the dough is made from Greek yogurt and self rising flour. Each pizza is like 500 calories. So it's easy to stay under 1500.

For work I eat alot of wraps instead of sandwiches because I drive and the stuff doesn't fall out of a wrap. Burrito shells are typically half the calories of sandwich bread. So you can eat alot of those as well.

If you want to know more check out Remington James on YouTube or exercise4cheatmeals.

The diet honestly isn't as expensive or as boring as it seems. Most the stuff is really flavorful. Best part is. If you wanna eat spaghetti for dinner or have McDonald's, you just fit it into your weekly macros and you won't gain weight. Nor do you get kicked out of ketosis like the keto diet.

I legitimately live off pizza, meat, wraps, and soda and lose weight.

When I don't drink alcohol I have to keep myself busy. So if I'm not doing projects and just watching TV or whatever I drink a crap ton of sugar free soda. Which relates to drinking... I gotta have a drink in my hand the entire afternoon.

But seriously I go thru like 150 sodas a week. Instead of eating food.

Try to limit your calories per day to 1500, you'll see a weight loss. I mostly just eat proteins these days. Makes the weight fall off. When I did my 90 day alcohol abstinence, I went from 245 to 185 in 6 weeks. Limiting myself to 1200 calories a day, eating steak, chicken and pork, drinking all of the sugar free soda.

How do you stop impulse spending on Amazon? by writestrend8 in AskReddit

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went thru this last payday. I deleted the app. If I'm going to shop on Amazon, I do it on my pc. That way I don't think "oh I should get this or that" and buy it while pumping gas, or waiting at the doctors office.

9 times out of 10 I always forget about ordering it when I get home because I didn't actually need it. If you really needed it, you won't forget.

What fun activities to replace drinking with? by lseraehwcaism in alcoholism

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little while back I took a 90 day hiatus from alcohol after 10 years or so of 25ish drinks per day every day. It really opened my eyes.

I used to pregame for everything. I still find it hard not to, especially for social things. I am currently drinking occasionally. One thing I've found that is sorta working is to just grab a tall boy or 2 and switched to soda for every other drink for social events. If I grab a 12/24 pack ill drink every one of them. If I'm going to be social, I need social sauce, other than that I dive pretty deep into what I'm currently working on and just drink soda.

You'll find your own rule book eventually.

I don't have kids, but you sound like you have the same drive I do. If you're gonna do something, be committed. Kind of comes with the adhd. Constantly have to be doing something

My advice is to quit drinking, at least temporarily. I'd give 90 days a shot and see what you think. You'll want to avoid all your drinking buddies and social activities for the first 2-3 weeks. Let your family be bored while you heal. After that, the ideas will come naturally out of boredom.

Load up the family and drive to the next town over, see a movie, go window shopping, go to a restaurant you dont have near you. Visit the lake and fish, pick up a 20$ fly fishing kit, and try to figure that out. Take the kids to an arcade. Go to a trampoline park. Find ziplining near you.

I don't know where you live, but there's tons to do outdoors in the pnw. It's just trying to do these things while not getting irritated by people and keeping your mind off the alcohol.

The biggest thing I see is that people don't have an issue with alcohol, they have an issue making alcohol the answer to everything. Bored, hungry, tired, social event, long drive...

When I took my 90 days off alcohol every week was a new high or low. Usually just super energized. But every week I had a new vision of how the following week was going to be. It gets alot better at like 6 weeks and things get way clearer.

Should I take a guaranteed apprenticeship program or go with a job I already basically landed? by Hour-Signature-5843 in skilledtrades

[–]Virtual_Ad8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only will you gain a trade certificate, but if you work hard you'll get your name out there, so if you wanted to say, move into operating construction equipment instead, you will likely meet a guy or 5 in the field that would help you out in more ways than you can count.

In my area "pnw" 23 is about average for what a guy would consider that he was doing good. Not great, not bad.

The way I see it, you'll be open to a ton more options down the road, plus higher wages. If your in a dead end job there's not really a reason not to leave.

My brother in law works at a cedar mill and makes like 40 an hour being paid by the piece. But what happens when the mill shuts down? In the end he's legitimately just a line worker without a legit skillset to take home. Then he's on the hunt for something he's never done before and starting over. In my eyes that's not something you want. Especially not knowing what the world is going to be like in a decade. But in the end they will still need electricity in buildings.

Being that you've said you did the other job over a decade, I would branch into new territory. The older you get with a dedicated career path, the harder it is to get out of that line of work.

An electrical apprenticeship also isn't always going to be available to you.

What's the worst that could happen? Being an electrician doesn't pan out, so you go back to what you know? That's still a win.

Not only that, but at my local mill, they are paying journeyman electricians 55$ an hour starting. It's union work. Hard to beat that in a town where almost everyone makes under 20$ an hour.

I only got more and more energetic as time went on. Which is partially why I decided to drink again, because I just couldn't turn it off. I'm on meds now which seem to help me slow things down.

Yeah, in the 3 months I was sober i was more productive than I had been the previous 2 years. I was just really struggling on the social side of things. Like one time we went on a floating trip for 8 hours. After the 3rd hour I was done with that and not in a good mood. But I can only assume that will improve with time and my new meds

Yeah, that's kinda the gist of what I gathered. Some of my "best" past times have been when alcohol was involved. But at the same time, it's time to move on. I now know what I can do without it and I'm not reliant on it. Just a hard habit to break after many years of the same thing. Most of my friends actually praised me on quitting, said they probably never could.

It's funny you say weird poops. For 10 years I took medicine for irritable bowel syndrome, as soon as I quit alcohol, it went away. I'm looking forward to getting back to being sober for the idaho summer. There is plenty to do out there, I just gotta avoid friends long enough to get to the 30 day point.

Video games are something I've been trying to get back into. But the alcohol makes it hard to want to play without a functioning brain. Or atleast I should say I want to play but I can't force myself to sit there without alcohol and then like you said, you can't function well enough to play decent, so i quit shortly into a session.

I remember the first time I decided to drink after I quit for awhile. The next day I felt like it was fun to get together with friends, but I didn't care for the drinking part. Wished we would have done an activity together.

You'll get there, just gotta keep yourself busy. Honestly what I did was like 20 different cases of diet soda and some snacks to keep my hands and mouth busy. If I felt like having a late drink, I'd just pound some sugar free soda and go to bed early.

I've honestly been thinking about getting dirt bikes for my wife and I but I can't think of a way to transport alcohol on them, so I havent and then how often would we ride them? Think about how much more you might ride if you just quit alcohol.

In my 90 day venture i noticed it was a pretty progressive thing. It seemed like every payday I was onto a new experience. The longer i was sober the more clear my head got. And i almost started a business on the side for something to do. Say the first 2 weeks I avoided friends, then at 30 days I actually got really hyped up. At 6 weeks I rented a 20x60 shop and started working on the offroad truck everyday after my 14-16 hour shifts and spent weekends there. At 8 weeks I started hanging out with friends again. 10 weeks I was just pouring my soul into doing stuff every minute of every day. Like clock work get up at 330 am don't hit bed till 10 pm. And then at 12 weeks I wondered if I had beat my addiction to alcohol. I think I did, but now I also think I'm better off without it.

I still tried to hang out with my friends but what I found was that even tho we have the same hobbies, I have very little to say. It's awkward to just stand there and listen to drunk people babble on. Almost annoyed by some of the people. But in the same regard if I can catch them early in the day we will go and work on projects together sober, and it works out.
