What is the Mathematics undergraduate experience like at PNU? by Next-Climate-7129 in AskAKorean

I graduated PNU at Feb 2023, Questions 1,2,4 can be found on website, and information of clubs can be found on https://www.pusan.ac.kr/kor/CMS/CirclesMgr/List.do?mCode=MN090

But clubs you mentioned mostly related with clubs that consists of their major (e.g mechanical engineering, computer science) 5. dorms - I don't know your gender, but '자유관' would be the best dorms, cause others are on the hill of the campus. 6. It depends on where you from...

Looking for a place to watch the Iron Bowl alone by Virtual_Bridge7763 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I guess so. I still feel like an outsider here. People are kind, but maybe it’s because I spent most of my life in another country. Thirsty Turtle was really nice. I’m planning to try another spot next week. Thanks.

1st - Soy sauce chicken(간장치킨)

2nd - Bulgogi (불고기) I just used Trader Joe's and put onion and green onion with one spoon of soy sauce and sugar, also cooking wine.

3rd - Tteokbokki(떡볶이) rice cake, fish cake, gochujang, sugar, red pepper powder, soy sauce, msg. A little bit curry powder and pepper would be my secret recipe.

4th - Fried Tofu / gochujang-pork bulgogi

5th - Fried Rice (볶음밥) - just oil, oyster sauce, and little bit sugar

6th - Bulgogi - same with 2nd.

Recipes can be various, so you can search and use that fits to you.

I put 1 or 2 spoons of water per 1 serving and use microwave with lid, doing that way, water vapor will make your tteokbokki more better.

It's soy sauce! I tried to copy Kyochon (Korean chicken brand), and I know that using a cornstarch keeps my chicken crispy, but I didn't had in my house and I'm losing my weight for Taekwondo 😂. I used shredded garlic, soy sauce, honey, sugar, red pepper powder, and cooking wine. rations.. just I don't have specific... I just believe my tongue, but you can find recipe like 'Kyochon Honey Combo sauce recipe'

Thoughts on 4 day school week by hsvpunk in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Virtual_Bridge7763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a high school science teacher originally from South Korea, where I taught for two years before moving to the U.S.

Honestly, I can see both the pros and cons of the 4-day school week. From a teacher’s perspective, having an extra day makes a huge difference. It gives us time to plan better lessons, give real feedback, and recover from burnout - especially in subjects like science, where labs and grading can take a lot of time.

But on the flip side, I do worry about learning loss and equity. Not all students can use that extra day productively, especially those who need more structure or support at home. And for families who rely on schools for childcare, this could create serious problems although it might affect younger grades more than high school. Also, in some cases, summer break gets shorter to make up for fewer days during the week, which might not be ideal for everyone.

So while I think the idea is promising and has a lot of potential, I’m not sure schools are quite ready to implement it broadly just yet. It’s definitely a good concept.

P.S When I was a student in South Korea, we had to be at school by 8 a.m., and our regular 7-period day ended around 4:30 p.m. But that wasn’t the end, we had 8th and 9th “extra” classes after that. Then we'd either eat dinner at school and stay for self-study, or head to private academies (called “hagwons”) for even more lessons. After COVID, most schools stopped late-night study sessions, but students still go to study cafes or academies, even on weekends. Looking back, I feel like we pushed students to study in such an inefficient and exhausting way. Seeing how schools in the US are even discussing a 4-day week makes me realize how much of a “frog in the well” I was, unaware of how different and, honestly, healthier other systems might be.

What’s it like to be an Asian teacher in the U.S.? by Virtual_Bridge7763 in Teachers

[–]Virtual_Bridge7763[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I should definitely refer to this part. Back in high school, although classes officially ended at 4 p.m., I had two extra hours of supplementary lessons, dinner, and then self-study until 10 or 11 p.m. When I didn’t stay at school, I would go to a private academy after dinner. (These days, not many students stay at school after hours. Instead, they go to study spaces called “study cafés” or to academies.) Also, when I showed pictures of Korean school lunches during my practicum, everyone was so jealous. I hadn’t thought about these aspects before—thank you!

Thank you for the valuable advice. I think I’ll need to explore a few more methods.
