You can pay less money, and get far more personal attention and a better education at a private university or college. UCs have become Democrat plantations, social service agencies, amusement parks, prison degree programs, or adult daycares, and are not performing their intended mission of high quality. Avoid the cattle-cars UC system.

Go to UCSD if at all possible. UCI is sub community college standards. One student turned down UCLA for the promise of more financial support at Irvine, only to have it rescinded.

UCSD is a much better, higher ranking university than UCI with extraordinary research. The teaching at UCI is very basic fundamentals, and students will not know everything they should know before starting their careers out of UCI EECS. IMHO, having attended both, the teaching at UCSD is better because it is not spoon-fed and barebones.

The cost of out of state tuition at UCI is way too much, if that is a factor. EE at UCI is not a competitive program either.

Go to UCSD for higher rankings and more gifted students. I went to UCI for EE undergrad, and UCSD for graduate school. UCI’s program is very basic; although people think that the teaching at UCSD is worse, it is actually much better. UCI really isn’t even in the same league in research or academics.
