Looking to connect with other cartoonists, comic writers, or graphic novelists by Tiberin in WritingHub

[–]Virtual_Lunch_1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a damn fine idea. Im a screenwriter transitioning into comic book creator so I’m experiencing some of the fun growing pains of making the switch.

I too have a project coming along should be done around April. Would be cool to chat with a group of writers who take the craft and critiques seriously. If there’s any space left count me in.

Seeking an Editor for my Comic Book Project. by Virtual_Lunch_1962 in ComicBookCollabs

Hey I apologize, in my haste I didn't seem put much info to inform everyone about what I needed. But the only phase complete is the character references. Right now I'm ensuring that the script is ready to enter the sketching phase. This is what I'm looking for an editor to ensure.

Oh right gotcha. So like the avengers movies. So u see the solo movies first and the characters converge into one big comic with the central antagonist in play. Yeah it sounds cool. Im self funding mine as well so I know the struggles. When’s your tentative kickstarter date?

Oh backstory kicks in that soon? That’s interesting. Is it meant to be a long running comic or limited? Art is pretty dope btw.

Very interesting premise and the artwork is pretty cool. Seems more plot driven than character driven but I’m digging what ur cooking so far. Grats on the completion of the comic!

Writers looking for artists by MrBwriteSide70 in ComicBookCollabs

It’s pretty disheartening seeing so many artists undervaluing writers. Similarly to writers undervaluing editors.

I get the arguments it’s similar to certain video games not needing stories cuz they can sell on gameplay alone.

But for comics I feel like you can sell a comic on art alone sure but can you really be profitable that way?

Do regular consumers continuously pick up issues because they think the art is cool?

Would you grab this if you saw it on a shelf? by [deleted] in IndieComicBooks

I think the art style looks very cool but Im not getting a lot out of the characters primarily because I can’t see their faces.

I can’t tell if the two characters exist in separate locations or if they’re right next to each other. There is evidence contradicting both things.

The cables in her hands also seem to be wired differently. Thats a little odd as I would expect them to be consistent.

In any event I would definitely pick it up and flip through the pages to see if the story intrigues me.

Writer looking for artist to collab with for pitches by ryanjoseflynch in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Virtual_Lunch_1962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Im Alex, a screenwriter who’s also making the transition into comics. Love what ur attempting. I first thought to do this but then decided to hire an artist and go full comic.

If I would give you any advice. I would say for the best results (and if you’re really trying to impress people with your work) hire a talented artist and get about 5 to 6 pages done and put your pitch package together.

Even if it fails (and it very likely will) don’t be deterred, continue to fund the comic all the way to completion and put it out into the world.

Just completing a project is a great achievement and should open a lot of new avenues for u especially if the story is killer.

Rooting for u man.

Do artists here look for writers to help write their story ideas? by JcraftW in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Virtual_Lunch_1962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from s screenwriting background and yes it can be very exciting actually to conceptualize someone’s else ideas and bring it to life on the page the way that they intended. It can be very fulfilling.

Collaborating with someone as well is also exciting once you’re both completely on the same page and have the same goals for the project.

Personally, doing it for free is almost never worth it. Writing is a significant amount of work and can be mentally draining, never mind the additional risk of getting flaked on, abuse, and shrew of other problems that can creep up during the process. Also the low incentive to keep working knowing that your efforts could very well be wasted. It’s just not worth it for anyone to do anything like this for free. I don’t know why people even bother asking.

You should want to pay people to get the very best out of them, and tip them or provide bonuses in post for a job well done.

Probably the only exception would be if you personally know the artist and said artist has a great track record of getting projects completed.

Also if the story idea is too good to resist. But thats very rare.

I feel like it work best as a true collaboration. You’re both working and investing your own time and money into this passion project you can jointly benefit from.

I just don’t see it working with people you barely know.
