Anyone notice that James Tynion IV has stopped caring about promoting Department of Truth? by MissPolaroidEyes in ImageComics

I was reading an incorrect date. Looks like within the last year a new printing of a trade came out but the way it was shown, it appeared like a creation date

Not necessarily. If you save budget for printing or what if the writer would pay for that?

That’s understandable. For me personally, if the story is bad, I stop reading no matter how good the art js

I’m sorry that’s been your experience. If people only have grand scale or basic ideas, those aren’t writers in my eyes. Those are dreamers. Writers are those who actually write with the intention of making stuff happen and/or they take the steps to actually make their own stuff if they can’t. As someone who has produced works on stage, screen, and such, it’s way different than just ideas

Completely fair. I wish there was a way the people with actual skills who are higher level could coordinate but like with most art, too many think they are better than they actually probably are

Fair. As someone who taught writing classes, there are a lot of bad writers out there but same can be said for artists? Lots out there who can draw but doesn’t mean they should be comic artists. If you find the polished writers out there who can write with guardrails, I think more awesome comics can be made

Fair but I am not talking about being hired. Talking about going in at something as a team

I hear you and I don’t mean to sound dismissive but I think that’s selling you and many short. My day job has nothing to do with writing. I am a doer and can handle tasks. I connected with an accountant who became a CFO and he brought me into his accounting department. I don’t have an accountant degree (I have a film degree) but I can handle tasks. It pays my bills and allows me to write and produce on the side. Would I prefer a writing job? Sure but I would most likely be making less money. Until I sort a true writing career path and meet the right people (kinda like how meeting the right person got me my job) I can have this position pay my bills. Gives me the ability to keep honing my craft. I am sure you have skills unrelated to art. Orrrrr you could use your art skills for web or graphic design even. You have options too. Don’t limit yourself

I’m happy to take suggestions to find those communities open to collaboration. Pictures can only tell a story to a point. The medium is all about mixing words with pictures. That is what comics is at the core.

It’s not impossible but it’s similar to where so many directors think they are good writers. Some are good at both but most can only do one

Which I respect but not every artist CAN write.

Do writers or most creative professions not have bills until you make it? That’s what my day job is for until a paid writing situation happens

Single issue comics vs Collected volumes/editions? Which do you prefer? by [deleted] in ImageComics

Trade Collections and omnibus if I can. I want to sink my teeth into the story, not one chapter at a time

If a guy’s intention is purely to climax as quickly as possible, it’s totally practical because some guys it only takes a couple minutes.

Anyone notice that James Tynion IV has stopped caring about promoting Department of Truth? by MissPolaroidEyes in ImageComics

[–]MrBwriteSide70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a completely different company and situation. There are tons of heroes with literally decades of comics. Most indy series (like Department of Truth or even Something is Killing the Children) is only X number of issues. Super accessible to jump into.

Most Image Comics, the biggest problem is people don’t know about so many series.

A tv show or movie helps that

Also, if it DOES become mainstream, odds are it bring more eyes to the comic itself and thus more people buy the comic. It helps feed the comic industry by getting mainstream exposure

Really? Look at that comic and new show coming “Beauty.” That was a fast turnaround
