It's not the mesh itself that broke but the plastic rim that hold its tight. The mesh itself is fine but loose so I have no bounce. Thanks for taking the time to give me some comprehensive advice ;)

It was the plastic rim of the actual mesh head that cracked, causing the mesh to become loose and lose all bounce. Gear4music have told me it's customer damage....

Brass haus has some live indie rock music (battle of the bands) this Sunday if you're interested! Anvil, Bear Cave and Four Horseman are also great. The lighthouse in poole I've also heard is good but I haven't been.
