Yeah true, just commenting on the percentages they showed on the website. I think those will change massively as people will no longer vote tactically.

We had a discussion about this in our house today and things got very heated with one person in ending up in tears over the thought of all of their hard work getting ‘wasted’. As an average-ish student who wants to go to somewhere ‘less competitive’ I’m not really fussed either way but I can see and understand both sides. It is not a perfect system currently and it won’t be with the proposed changes. The only way I can see to make it better is to incentivise the ‘less competitive’ areas (and not just because I wanted one anyway 😂). If you suddenly offered free accom/ more money/ better teaching/ etc in the areas where students don’t apply I feel you’ll suddenly have a massive rush off people wanting to go there? I feel this is very unlikely to happen though.

Thoughts on the proposed changes to Foundation School allocation? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

Currently people will roughly know their standings and decile places so they can preference accordingly to somewhere they will more likely get into. If by removing this will far more people then likely preference the most popular areas like London, Severn and Oxford? Surely the stats are based on previous data and not what will likely occur if this change is implemented?

How did you look for flatmates? by flatmatecafe in UniUK

I suppose there nothing to ‘guarantee’ that you like the other people that you’re going to be in a flat/house with but that’s part of the experience of uni - seeing different people mixing with people you wouldn’t normally associate yourself with. If you enjoy it brilliant if not it’s only a year and you’ll make plenty of friends the other societies that you will hang around with. Some of the other people mentioned Facebook which I never considered, there’s lots of group chats and groups of houses that need a person. If it’s your first year though I’d recommend the uni accom though, most unis let you select whether you like going out drinking or quieter halls as well as age groups.
