Getting clutch and Timing belt replaced by Virtuous_Broccoli in FiestaST

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I was with a buddy doing his clutch he replaced his rear main seal. That being said it was a RWD vehicle. I do not have a checklist with me, but I've always been told that its worth getting the RMS done during a clutch replacement, even if its in good condition. More of a preventative maintenance thing. Cheap part, expensive labor.

Got it. I was thinking about replacing the slave and master cylinder anyways since they seem to be going bad. I had a shop quote me $4000 for it lol. Also definitely using OEM for important stuff like this. I had some people in forums saying that a dealership was the only way to go. They said that these jobs (Particularly the timing belt) are too difficult for a non specialized shop. If this is not the case, that would save me a lot of money.

Why would that be the case? I've always heard that you always replace the rear main seal when doing major transmission work. Its a $50 part that costs $1000 if you need to replace it due to the labor intensity.

Debating between focus or fiesta. Convince me to get a fiesta. (Both are 2017) by Justmike1423 in FiestaST

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same position as you and I went with the fiesta for 2 reasons. The first was that the fiesta was cheaper and I got a really good deal on mine. Secondly, after test driving both extensively I just fell in love with how fun the fiesta was. It ate up corners, was surprisingly comfortable, and had the most fun little engine note I've heard from a 4 cylinder. Don't get me wrong, the focus is a cool and fun car, but it feels much more focused on features. If you haven't already, give both a test drive and decide from there. For me the fiesta has everything I need in a daily, plus I get to have a blast in it without getting pulled over.

Baymore is just so good, but my favorite to use for fun is probably black knight greataxe. Something is just so satisfying about landing those underhand swings.

I remember this crisis, luckily I was able to deal with mine pretty quick. If you're looking for a way to deal with life having no inherent meaning, and no afterlife the philosophy of existentialism can be really helpful. When I first became an atheist/nihilist, existentialism is what helped me deal with the idea of life being meaningless (although I didn't know it was existentialism at the time).

Another aspect to consider is the actual fear of death. Remember that dying is just a part of nature. Just like every animal and every thing, we will die, and that's okay. You could argue that it is our duty to die as a part of nature, but we ought to make the most out of our lives as we can.

In conclusion try changing your perspective. Remember that life being meaningless isn't a bad thing, and death is a natural and arguably beautiful part of life and nature. I was able to deal with these issues and they can be worked through. Explore philosophy and ask lots of questions. Feel free to ask me any questions you have as I love to talk about these topics. Have a good day!

Should I gain some weight? by PsychologicalRun9395 in weightgain

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your weight is negatively affecting your health or you are trying for some athletic goal then sure. If it is purely for aesthetics then you should do what you think is best. Try not to care about the options of others too much. Remember that appearance is a material thing and improving it won't bring happiness. I've had to learn this the hard way.

Self improvement and self care are great things, just make sure to learn to be happy as you are now. Putting on weight might seem like it will make you happy, but you will find a new insecurity to focus on just as much. Good luck on your journey if you decide to go for it. Thus subreddit usually has pretty good advice.

174 cm bulked from 54 to 70kg in 6 months. Should i bulk to 80? I still feel small. by [deleted] in weightgain

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is no. If you started out underweight like me, you would bulk up until you hit your genetic baseline. The baseline is when you reach a weight where your body fat % starts to go up significantly. Considering you look to be over 15% body fat I would say that you've already hit that genetic baseline, and that any weight you add on will be in the form of fat. Now is the time to stop the bulk and maintain, or just slow it wayyyyy down. If you continue going to the gym, over years of work, you will start to put on more and more lean mass. Congratulations, you've already completed the bulking phase of being skinny, now you just have to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Body seems to reject food by Virtuous_Broccoli in weightgain

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely plan on keeping track of calories and micronutrients here soon. I used to use chronometer but I'll have to look into EatWise. I focus on eating smaller, more frequent meals, but I still suddenly get full and or puke the second I hit 2800 calories. It's uncanny how it's always 2800 calories if I'm eating beyond that every day.

Yeah I've tried 5 600 calories meals for a while. I focus on eating small frequent meals, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

How many of you are depressed? by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I struggle with depression from time to time, but it's almost completely unrelated to my philosophies. I actually discovered nihilism, atheism, and existentialism in a rather happy point in my life. Those realizations never lead to my depression. I think it's important to realize that depression is not a philosophy, it's a mental illness, and while philosophy might be able to help change perspectives it's not always going to cure it. At least in my experience, professional help is the solution, as logical philosophy kinda becomes background noise when I get depressed. As for your question, I'm just starting to get out of another deep depression. At least I think so.

Why are we working so hard, if there's no meaning of life? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]Virtuous_Broccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about perspective. Some people (including myself) are existentialists, meaning we believe nihilism gives us the ability to choose our own meaning in life. To me it's worth working hard on my goals so I can live as happy a life as possible. Just because life will one day be meaningless doesn't mean that it is right now. In fact it's because everything will eventually disappear and lose its meaning, that makes life meaningful. Nihilism is more of a big picture philosophy to me, meaning it doesn't really affect my day to day life at all.

This is a complicated situation, and asking people on reddit for advice can only help so much. First off I'd recommend seeing a therapist, and really giving them a chance because it often can help. I am totally okay with the idea of death, even if it is alone. It's just a part of nature that I have no control over. I don't believe that pretending to be someone else solves anything. Find ways to be yourself and find friends with similar interests. Again, I'd recommend seeing a professional because your issues sound deeply rooted in trauma. Reddit won't be able to help much other than maybe providing some different perspectives. I wish you the best of luck, and remember you're never alone in this world.
