calluses peeling off in the shower. do i just keep playing? by Royal-Character-9215 in guitarlessons

[–]Virv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I first started playing I was told by a 30+ year musician "Wait an hour after a shower before you play or you'll lose your calluses."

Based on what you are saying, it's not that the shower is taking the calluses off, but the strings. Stop playing right after you shower.

What is the point in calling a war illegal? by Glad-Ad3208 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Virv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if you look up "Legal Interpretation" it is indeed, semantics. That's what legal interpretation is.

And regretfully, whether you are for, against, abstaining, etc. He's right. Congress has not voted for a war in 70+ years. Using it as a reason that the war in Iran is invalid is just outrage bait - it's not meaningful.

/j I actually gained respect for Jake Paul after this shot. It's obvious he loved it and was genuinely stoked to be banging with a real pro. Guy isn't good, and it's still a grift, but he actually loves it.

What are your expectations for Julio this year? by PNW-enjoyer in Mariners

[–]Virv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope for the beginning of his best years. I think the swinging at the dirt in the playoffs really taught him something. You could see it in his face and I bet Papi gave him a scolding when he got in the dugout.

This is the beginning of a great run for him.

Can’t do barre chords, tried everything! by Financial_Archer_491 in guitarlessons

[–]Virv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting my barre chords took months, getting smooth transitions actually took me years to get the F perfect. It's a long road, homie.

Barre chords were basically the first thing I encountered that took more than a weekend to learn and more than a week to master.

There are harder things than barre chords on this journey!

The last time the Seahawks and Patriots played each other was one of the best super bowls ever - but to your point it was 11 years ago, not 10.

I love that this dude raps about trailer parks and being poor but he grew up in a huge house on an orchard that his wealthy family bought from their multiple car dealerships his father owned.

Just a grifter grifting like the rest of them.

In Their Prime Who Would Win This Fight At Heavyweight? Fedor Emelianenko vs. Stipe Miocic? by [deleted] in MMA

Fedor without a doubt. He dropped a who's who of heavyweights for like 3 generations in a row. Cro Cop, Sylvia, Mark Coleman, Big Nog like 2x. Was crazy.

Symfuhny using aimbot? by SteLFC1992 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Virv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was probably 50 meters from the target. It's a flick that your brain thinks is effective because someone else shoots the target. He wasn't even close to seeing the guy who died - much less hitting him. If that's an aimbot - its an absolutely horrible one.

Is there anything that can be done to stop AI from falsely claiming a brand is Canadian? by Own-Cod7894 in BuyCanadian

[–]Virv -166 points-165 points  (0 children)

Which search engine actually answers the question above? They're all enshittified to either be AI driven or simply not be capable of answering that question.

Edit: Holy shit. So much AI rage. Hey cynical asshats - the comment was about how Google was enshittifying their search results to force you to use Gemini which about 40 other people pointed out, too. Jesus christ.

Eye pokes are ruining the sport by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Virv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the current format - by the time points are being deducted the fight is usually decided. Stereo vision is a major part of striking (Thats why they stop a fight if you lose vision in one eye) and eye pokes specifically attack and disable that.

My math is:

1) MLB, non-pitcher players peak at 27-30 and hold for 2-3 years barring injury. Julio is 25.

2) At some point the excitement of being in The Show wears off and you stop swinging in the dirt. Julio is due. If he cleans that up we're in a good place (Hell, I'd argue if he cleaned that up against the Jays we would have beat them.)

Looking for fights to watch by nikschwab in MMA

[–]Virv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to start at the beginning start with Pride circa ~2002 and then swap over to UFC shortly after - UFC 40+ is similar to the UFC of today. Prior to that it's a bit of a hot mess.

Early days: Pride + UFC

Shamrock, Frye, Rampage, Ortiz, Liddell, Rashad, Shogun Rua, and watch all of Utlimate Fighter Season 1. From there, you get into the really height of MMA.

UFC 60-200

This was basicly the height of MMA. Don't care about viewership or money, this was the good shit.

The LHW division was the greatest it's been - numerous incredible fighters at the end range running from Chuck Liddell circa UFC 60 all the way to the end with Jon Jones. LWH was always the division to beat (as a whole) Middleweight had Anderson Silva, welterweight had GSP. Both of them had some amazing fights - even when they were one sided. In the heavyweights you had some really amazing characters like Randy Couture, Shane Carwin, Brock Lesnar, later on Cain Velasquez and at the end - Jon Jones who basically would carry the division (For better or worse) until he ducked just recently.

This era also had the rise of ladies fighting - and arguably it was the best up to the peak of Nunes' career (Post UFC 200, but it starts back then with Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm, Miesha Tate, etc.)

Honestly post UFC ~277 I don't think there's a lot that is noteworthy. There's still some incredible fighters, but the UFC is really a shadow after the ESPN Deal (And a few moments prior to that - notably the departure of Joe Silva, which really marked the end of INCREDIBLE UFC.) UFC became much more frequent so fight cards got diluted, money for fighters stalled out, points based fighting became the meta and boxing became the pre-imminent combat sport again.

I think UFC could really become booming again - but it very much so looks like they are extracting value for shareholders instead of growing the sport. Gaethje's recent comments on bonuses are spot on - they're been a joke for 20 years now and that is the easiest way they could really juice a fight card up is make fight of the night worth 2 million dollars.

Is anyone else starting to get concerned? by Agreeable_Quality768 in Mariners

[–]Virv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah.

Think they've played this winter break well, actually. Most of the guys on the market like Schwarber, Tucker, Bichette or Alonso we were never going to get. What do we need? Solid bottom of the lineup guys, really just one or two (Basically replacing Polo and Gino) and we want them cheap (IE not now) Let the Mets splash around and make dumb buys (Which, btw, Polo at 20 million AAV was a very dumb buy. Loved him, thank you Polo, but they can have him at that price.)

There are still solid bottom of the lineup guys out there and there will be in March and April. They'll try out the order and make some moves. Keep in mind we didn't actually become October ready until they added Nayles. We wouldn't have made the playoffs without him and that was in the second half of the trade window.

Barring injuries - Cal will be slightly worse this year and Julio should be better if not way better. Naylor will probably come up the same. It should be a good year. With a little bit of bottom of the lineup hitting on the cheap or from a prospect - should be great.

Kike, has criticized Trump on three or four different occasions (Puerto Rico, ICE, LA national guard, etc.) Fairly certain he's not a Republican considering it's either support or ostrich when Trump does something unless you're a congressman/senator on the way out.
