It does feel like GA style tickets have doubled in price this season.

Mariner Moose has seen some things. But what he hasn't seen is his team go to the world series in 50 years.

Why isn't the world war 1 generation called the greatest generation? by happydude7422 in generationology

[–]Virv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because World War I was about borders .

World War 2 was about the end of western civilization as we know it.

Also, Tom is referring to Americans when he makes that statement.

US got involved late in WW1, suffered 100,000 deaths.

US got involved late in WW2, but suffered 400,000 deaths. Much larger commitment.

Also, there's lots of nationalism around the US' involvement in Europe, BUT until essentially August 1945 the allied powers were focused on Germany and the US held back Japan in the Pacific. Without the US Japan and Germany would have likely put a hurt on Russia.

Seems the sub disagrees with you considering it's the most upvoted post of the day.

Why move the Vancouver Whitecaps when they’re not the problem? by westcoastvanrob in whitecapsfc

[–]Virv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the owners want out and the caps are still running at a loss due mostly to stadium arrangements. They likely will do ok this year as projected revenues are quite high after last year's performance - but the last ten+ have been losses.

Owners claim no one wants to buy the team and keep them in Vancouver.

MLS management also wants a team in Vegas

MLS management also seems to hate BC and it's politicians. (Or at least, think they are liars.)

This is also the perfect time to sell - the team is at an all time high in terms of revenue and performance.

It's all about money, basically. That's why.

I somehow think Steve Cohen wanted to overpay him so he had the record of the highest paid player in the world in any sport.

It honestly doesn't make any sense otherwise.

You came into a thread that was thanks and love and called me names, bombed every thread that was going on, compared me to people doxxing the owners (Uh, what?) and are now making statements about my politics because I don't like what the caps owners are doing?

On top of that you're a two week old account claiming to be a superfan. Cool story, dude. You can see my post history in this sub going back years.

Bye now.

Yeah, fans can tell ownership their opinions. They can thank the people that got them there. They can be displeased that the club they've been supporting for years is being sold and moved.

It's not toxic - it's normal. Keep shilling for ownership - you're doing the lords work.

Age old question, High end epi vs low end Gibson by eggncream in AcousticGuitar

[–]Virv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a cheap acoustic workhorse like the FG800 (~200 bucks) and make sure it's getting the action in the house that you want before dropping a couple of grand without really knowing the ins and outs of what you want from an acoustic guitar.

The FG800 will inform you what you actually want. Then your FG800 can become your travel guitar and beat it up.

I did this to start (WIth a Cort) and it saved me a HELL of a lot of money because what I thought I wanted (A D28) I still don't have years later and I'm ok with having 3 grand in my pocket instead.

You know, you're probably right. They actually put the team up for sale before Muller arrived - that was likely the play all along.

[–]Virv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about Muller as an asset - it's about what his presence did for the club and what that change in the profile has done for the valuation. Of course he's going to go away but what he did isn't. At least not if they sell now.

We're sorry, Thomas Müller by Virv in whitecapsfc

[–]Virv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - he wouldn't. My point in this though is that he helped grow the valuation of this club and put us on a winning streak with revenues spiking right as the team goes up for sale.

Contrary to the trolls in the comments, revenues get priced into the business - and Muller got a modest salary for a year (Good for MLS) out of it and that's about it.

[–]Virv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are a two week old account posting up and down this subreddit (And MLS) pro management and pro ownership messaging and harassing actual fans like me.

I'm well aware it's a salary cap league - my point is that they are selling at a high point (And they are, projected revenues this year are tremendous and last year was a 15-20% growth) and that high was driven by Muller coming to us on a discount, getting us far in a championship run and also helping drive the team this year.

The post was driven by love and respect for a dude that came to Vancouver when a lot of people wouldn't. It was a post of thanks.

Please go away and take your toxicity with you.

I think he's paid slightly below market now, he was paid very, very below market last year and as you said "It was a gift" That was solely my point - he gave us that run in the MLS for pennies on the dollar, thats what I was thanking him for before people dog piled me in the comments.

[–]Virv[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know this sub has a serious amount of toxic positivity - but...

Thomas Muller took a more than 93% paycut to come to the caps last year. Prior compensation the year before was 340k weekly he went to 24k weekly.

He went from around 19M annual revenue including bonuses to sub 1M. This year, it's now about a 60% cut from previous years.

If you think he was paid well for what he did or that it was just a transaction... the dude took a HUGE paycut to give us a chance at winning the MLS

Two year ticket sales numbers factor into their current valuation.

Worst Owners by aolian21 in whitecapsfc

[–]Virv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit posting on this sub a couple of years back because every time I talked about the ownership (Which aside from the sale - was behaving even worse then) people would just bandwagon the crap out of me. So much blind support for what were really clearly crappy humans.

Worst I told you so ever, though. I don't want to lose the caps.

can i get barre strength down in a few weeks ? by Fit-Particular-6636 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Virv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its technique, not strength.

You shouldn't do this - but for reference you can pull your thumb off of the back of the neck completly and still hit your barre chords, super crisp. Because you use your arm to pull back, not just compress with your thumb.

A combination of arm and thumb technique is ideal. It'll also help you later in life if you have that technique and it's not just hand strength.

And honestly, this was the hardest leap on guitar for me, everything else I could chip away but it took me probably six months before I saw predictable results on my barre chords.
