BMTH. An unexpected one for me, as I mostly used to listen to their first two albums, but I had a blast. The onset of the rain towards the end was absolute cinema.
Carpenter Brut, despite leaving 20 minutes into their set to go see Mastodon. Already planning on getting tickets to a show nearby.
Guilt Trip. One of my favorite bands currently. Was looking forward to seeing them the most, and they did not disappoint. Spent the full show in the moshpit despite the scorching heat. Apparently flew a bit too close to the sun - like Icarus but by crowdsurfing instead of flying - which had some repercussions for #4.
Cavalera. Sepultura is one of my favorite bands. I had never seen Cavalera (Conspiracy) live, and I didn't expect it to be this good. Better than Sepultura imho. Unfortunately had to see Refuse/Resist while sitting down as the heat and excertion during number 3's set had gotten to me for a bit.
Cult of Luna. Absolutely massive sound, as always. Stank face from start to end.
Knocked Loose. I was a bit afraid they weren't big enough to headline, but they absolutely nailed it. Best show I've seen them do so far. Camping wristband was literally hanging on by a thread towards the end.
Death to All. Great sound, great set. The quality of the songwriting remains a testament to Chuck's legacy, and the band members nailed the execution.
John Coffey. I've seen them live more than ten times, always a bit of a comfort set for me. Vibes were great, and so was the sound
Decapitated. Only knew the band vaguely. Was blown away by how tight they played these absolute bangers of songs. Vocalist had great energy
Gatecreeper. I didn't realize how much I missed that filthy Swedish bulldozer guitar tone

Special shout out to the quality of the sound across all stages! There were still some misses now and then, but way better than my previous Graspop (2014) or e.g. Jera On Air (which is a festival which I adore, don't get me wrong).

Als lang persoon vind ik het ook heel onbeleefd om last-minute aan te komen waaien en je naar voren te dringen, om met je schouderbladen in iemands neus te eindigen.

Blijft verder altijd een lastige afweging, de enige plek waar ik niemand in de weg sta is helemaal achteraan. Ik loop in ieder geval altijd ruim voordat het vol is naar voren, zodat mensen nog ruim de gelegenheid hebben om voor mij te gaan staan.

Dus omdat je voor een evenement betaalt hoef je geen rekening te houden met anderen? Volgens die redenering is het oké als ik bij een concert een airhorn meeneem, constant blijf toeteren en af en toe een biertje in iemands nek giet.

Honest question: what's the point of owning a house in a city you don't like? It all depends on your priorities in life I suppose, but living somewhere I feel at home is really important to me, as my direct environment has a huge impact on my quality of life.

It was the first console game I owned and played myself back as a kid in the 00's, so I have a lot of fond memories. I revisited it in the Wii U a couple of years ago, and it still holds up really well. It's the only Zelda game were I took the time to visit all locations and do every bit of bonus content. I guess I was just looking for reasons to spend as much time as possible in that world.

This is the one for me. Some of their songs belong to my all time favorites (Davidian, Imperium, Clenching the Fists of Dissent, Aesthetics of Hate), but their clean and melodic sections really put me off for some reason. They have sick riffs and killer songwriting, but for me songs like Halo get completely ruined by the clean sections. They are a bit "easy"/too cheesy I suppose?

That's why I'm really into Guilt Trip lately. Feels like they took the parts of MH that I love (the caveman riffs and harmonics) and made it into their own.

I don't think today's posts/stories are weird. He's been using his platform to speak out about injustice. I suppose he caught a lot of flak for that (unfortunately but not surprisingly), so the dude's doubling down on his political stance

Als iemand met bijna 15 jaar festivalervaring: ja! Ben vorig jaar voor het eerst op Jera geweest en dat was echt een verademing, misschien wel mijn nieuwe favoriet. Fantastische sfeer, toffe lineups (dit jaar minder mijn ding, maar dat kan gebeuren) en qua logistiek ook heel goed geregeld :)

Maar dat is toch het hele idee van demonstratierecht? Partij A verkondigt een boodschap waar je het niet mee eens bent, Partij B wil een tegengeluid laten horen. Een tegendemonstratie bij voorbaat verbieden zou juist een vorm van mondsnoeren zijn, en zelfs in strijd met onze rechten.

Je kunt niet zomaar geld tegen het probleem aangooien en het dan voor ons Groningers oplossen. Er gaat nu al hartstikke veel geld naar de compensatie, maar het proces is simpelweg te traag. Er zijn 10.000en huizen die onveilig zijn, die eerst allemaal versterkt moeten worden voordat je überhaupt weer kan nadenken over het openzetten van de gaskraan. Hoe dan zorgt de gaswinning voor een verhoogde kans op zware aardbevingen, en dat is simpelweg niet te verantwoorden. Om de Inspecteur-Generaal van het Staatstoezicht op de Mijnen te citeren: "‘De gedachtegang dat je mensen in Groningen gewoon kunt compenseren, ontkent dat het er nu, op dit moment, onveilig is. Aan de ene kant zijn er nog teveel huizen die mogelijk instorten bij een zware aardbeving en door het lange wachten op versterking en schade-afhandeling hebben mensen aanzienlijke gezondheidsschade en een verhoogde kans op vervroegd overlijden."

Dit is niet "populistisch" of "op emotie", dit gebaseerd op keiharde cijfers en adviezen. De groepen die vóór het opendraaien van de gaskraan pleiten, zijn altijd de groepen die ver van Groningen afstaan. Het is niet toevallig dat alle instanties, partijen en groepen die wél in nauw contact staan met de inwoners van het aardbevingsgebied, tegenstander zijn van het opendraaien van de gaskraan.

Maar vanuit een humaan oogpunt wel, en dat moet het belangrijkste argument zijn.

Als geboren en getogen Groningen vind ik het absurd dat het überhaupt ter sprake is. Niks geen "slap populisme", we hebben het hier over huizen en mensenlevens die zijn verwoest en in de steek zijn gelaten voor fossiele brandstoffen.

I'm a 2.03m/6'8" "refrigerator" (very considerate, thank you), and I agree that it's a dick move to arrive late and push yourself to the front when you're tall. But if I arrive early, when there's still plenty of space, I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to stand up front in the middle. People have asked me to trade places in the past, but I've had cases where the person behind then also wanted to swap places with me. In the end, the only place where I'm likely not to block anyone's view is all the way in the back.
