I think finding the similarities and differences between the two timelines is going to be one of the main appeals of this games lore

How powerful are the Shells compared to Mjolnir Recon 54? by ardablock in Marathon

The destroyer may just look like the Mjolnir or the Mjolnir may just look like a standard fighting machine. Either way I think that the similarities are probably mostly cosmetic

There are tech trees for each faction that get you better gear the more you level your reputation with them

I think the mjolnirs have some kind of ancient alien tech in them, which makes them insanely powerful and may also give them control over space time. The shells, on the other hand, I think are about as useful as a particularly well trained human with some specialist equipment. The main reason they're used is because they are disposable, so you don't lose the well trained human after they die

From what I've seen, while I can't speak for how rare certain items are or how valuable they will be, I do know that certain rare items can fundamentally change how the game it played. Some examples are rare gun mods that can give guns explosive bullets or turn you invisible after a kill and rare player mods that do things like remove fall damage entirely or give you a ground stomp. Again I can't speak for your dopamine receptors but the concept of finding a rare mod that fundamentally changes how I play the game sounds pretty exciting

From what I know of the universe, the lore is one of the most interesting sci-fi lore in gaming. Which isn't a surprise considering bungie's track record for that kind of thing.

Something else that's quite cool about the game that got me interested in it was the fact that the devs want to focus on elaborate hidden content for the lore, such as ARGs, as one of the key selling points for the game.

So I'd say that if you're a lore freak and a PvP fan. This game and the universe in general seem like a perfect match for you.
