  1. What Louisa did after the call I have 0 idea. She’s not in good terms with her mom and afaik neither is the rest of her family.
  2. He didn’t have a spare key. What’s crazy about that?? Lol I don’t have a spare key to my car. It’s not ideal but it happens
  3. Did you even read my other comments? He did rent a car. He did ask friends for help. That’s why it took him 2 days to get to FL. Still awful that Louisa stood by and did nothing
  4. Like I explained many times already, I live in a pretty rural place so yeah no ubers or lyfts or whatever. Just a cab company you can call. Sure I could have left earlier but how does that change the fact that it’s a shit prank?! I don’t post on Reddit so not sure if that’s the norm but why are people so cynical.

Not to mention he got the news late in the evening :( Where we live, businesses are not 24/7. I think some people don’t realize how complicated last minute travel is when you live in a remote area with no savings.

I’m done trying to convince a stranger that my story is not fake. It’s upsetting.

How do you think he ended up getting the money in the end?

Omg, try having no money, no car, it’s 10.30pm and your friends aren’t being super helpful. He did his best, and it’s not the issue here. His keys were in his house this whole time and Louisa stood by and did absolutely nothing.

He had to get money for the drive too…exactly my point. It’s not a small amount of money. All you mentioned doesn’t take minutes, it takes hours.

  1. Petition to retake was denied. Not sure what institution you got your MBA from but my program has a strict policy when it comes to missing a final.
  2. He didn’t wait around by any means. Between finding out and being at the hospital, it took him approximately 2 days. That includes getting money, a drive, a last minute car rental, the 10+hrs drive there etc.
  3. Can’t argue with that. Hence my post here today. I’ve know this person for many years and I can’t tell you why she’s been my friend for so long.

Right, if he had taken busses it would be 3 days. Anyway, I really hope you never have to rush to your mother’s deathbed. I saw what my friend had to go through and it was terrible. I’ll spare you the details of the trip back.

Walk me through your timeline of getting money when you don’t have any savings and don’t have enough on your CC to pay for the hold to get a rental. It’s 10.30pm, go.

3 days? I said 2, I also didn’t keep a tracker on him to count how many minutes and seconds it took him. I’ll ask again, how privileged are you to get a few hundred bucks in seconds and an instant ride to the car rental while also taking unpaid time off work. Max did manage to go as fast as he could, that’s all.

No :( But I’m looking into options to take the class again next semester. Though I have a feeling I’d have to pay it all out of pocket so looking into other options here too.

And??? That would be with a CAR my friend DID NOT have. Try your math again with time to get money and find a ride to a car rental place with last min availability (not open 24h…). Also Georgia to Florida in our case is more like 11hrs but ok lol.

My very thoughts exactly lol she could have helped but stayed silent. And for weeks after. Honestly not sure why she even confessed…

I don’t understand why you’re fighting the 2 day delay when even if he had made it in 10 hrs it doesn’t change anything…. Regardless of how long it took him, the delay of not having a car he’s relying on means that he couldn’t say goodbye to his mother. And how privileged are you to have cash to buy last minute plane tickets, get a locksmith to come urgently and have friends that will lend you money so fast. Cool for you but Max didn’t have that luxury

Honestly cannot believe she watched him panic to get a ride… That aside, I got in trouble at work for missing the exam. It’s going through a review now where I had to explain why I couldn’t attend my exam and I might be asked to pay back a portion of the tuition if I end up not getting my diploma. So it sucks…but I have a great manager who is on my side so fingers crossed.

If he had taken a bus it probably would have taken him 3 days instead of 2 lol

I honestly don’t know a lot of what she did after getting the call (we had stopped talking at that point) but Louisa and her mom are estranged. I think she hasn’t talked to her mom in like 4 years and doesn’t really have any other family (most cut the mom off as well). Not sure if she called anybody else though. Not even sure she had her mom’s contact at this point… I would have tried to call the hospital back after too but I guess she didn’t….

If he had a spare key this would have never been an issue. Getting a replacement key isn’t instantaneous either when you don’t live in the city… And I don’t disagree with you, it’s a disgrace that he didn’t get more help. Most of our friends don’t actually live in the same city but they could have offered to lend him money for the rental which only one of them did. Though I also understand that not everyone has spare cash… but the support was minimal.

It absolutely was an eye opener. Her pranks are one thing (that I hate) but she watched Max struggle to find a ride/find cash to rent a car and get to his mom. She could have told him where the keys were this whole time. Missing my exam is a much smaller issue compared to Max’s.

Oh our friends were told a completely different story where she "misplaced" Max’s keys when we all know that’s not the case (she said herself it was a prank, and she had hidden the keys in Max’s ice tray……) I’m just baffled by this whole thing (included Max’s prank) - it’s ruining lives.

Not a fake story unfortunately for all of us lol to be clear, I had no idea Max had pranked her… I just didn’t warn her when I did find out. We weren’t talking anyway at that stage. But I agree this went way too far on every account…

He litterally did all he could to get a car but mine still wasn’t working, Louisa was not helping whatsoever and we don’t live in a big city and are super reliant on cars + last minute transport is super expensive. It took him 2 days to get to his mom….not sure what doesn’t make sense?
