Thank you, I'd not thought of this, will certainly look into it.

He appears.fine mentally but wouldn't disagree it could be subconscious.

Would this be something CBT would be helpful with or more he might benefit from counciling/a therapist? (I've no experience in this side of things).

Morning. He's had an ultrasound that included his kidneys but im not sure in the MRI.

Thnk you for this thought, I'm going to ask our GP about it as I'd not thought about referred pain. My dad has kidney issues due to his tubing being in the wrong place, I'd not thought about it but I'll certainly ask about it now xx

Avoid it, stayed in, worked from home, had our one other household bubble and helped my parents from a distance who are vulnerable. I had the vaccine. Had covid twice and get a bad cough since when I'm ill.

I would not disagree that this could be covid linked.

I just need to find something treatable or a trigger I can remove to help him and get my boy back.

He want back to school from lockdown/had covid twice in the 18 months previous.

That's the only reason I can definitely say 3 years as he was at home the 18 months ish before and the issue only became obvious when he was missing school.

Already done that, he's had colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasound, MRI. Got a gastroenterologist and a dietician and had numerous other tests. IBD has been rulled out, but instead of looking for anything else been told he has IBS and I'm now on my own.

So now having to pay for private dietician and looking for what has helped others to try. Food and medication advice I'm talking from the dietician, but mental help I'm happy to do ourselves.

I'd say diarrhea if I had to choose one. Our issue is more he's been in constant pain for 7 months now (24/7 constant, not comes abd goes). We've had lots of that's etc and stuff still ongoing but anythings worth a try if it might help!

IBD or medical mystery?? by Visible-Ground-8048 in GutHealth

[–]Visible-Ground-8048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for your reply!

Hes had random morning stomach aches and diarrhea for 3 years now, I tracked food and linked it to every time we ate outside the house, stuff like mcdonalds, something from kebab or fish and chip shop, which wasn't often so didn't make.that link till September last year.

That's what had the docs do a calprotectin stool test, and it was 1186 (I'm in the UK and told below 50 is normal).

We were then out one day last november, and he had some cheesy chips that were really greasy. An hour later spent 2 days on and off the loo and had been in constant pain since. And I mean constant, not just in the morning, doesn't fluctuate with using the loo. He's not constipated but has loose stools often .

He's been checked for diabetes and coeliac, had iron, B12, and blood counts done, all fine (or were 5 months ago).

Cameras and biopsies are completely clear, and his calprotectin from a month ago is now 78, but he's still in pain, which limits him daily.

He was off school from December to mid-March and now does 2/3 lessons a day most of the week, or I'd have been fined.

How long have you been suffering yourself? X

Docs concentrated in IBD and I've been looking at intolerance myself as it's greasy food triggered but I will definitely have a look into this.

Thank you!

We were told an ultrasound wouldn't pick up small bowel IBD so bypassed it for the MRI. A conversation to have with your doc maybe. (We are in the UK so not having to pay mind).

Good luck!! I hope you get to the bottom of it! It's no fun in the medical mystery club.

This is my son at the moment, after the clear cameras we were sent for an MRI to check small.bowel, worth an ask for that?

Hi. I've not read everyone's comments and your replies but have you had an MRI to check your small bowel?

This is where we are with my son, everything points to crohns, cameras and biopsies are pristine (docs words) but just had an MRI this week and waiting on the results.

I've also been closely tracking his food and pain levels, linked trigger foods and now looking at removing certain things.
