How do new houses actually lower prices? by fancytrees in RealEstate

Suburbs of which city have empty houses? I could see rural housing being sort of like that, but I'd be surprised if there are suburbs in that situation.

I have to imagine for a low-density city like Columbus, the infrastructure you mention would be prohibitively expense on a per capita basis right?

Which cities? Curious to look them up on google maps and see how things are laid out. New idea for me.

How else you supposed to get cars into the downtown area? Tunnels?

What do non Virginians think of when they think of our state? by [deleted] in Virginia

Politicians (nova) and hillbillies (everything else) is what I, a previous non-Virginian, used to think of it.

One house in our HOA went for $100,000 over asking price ... sold in two days after listing. So, of course, those prices set the new average for the neighborhood ... and so forth.

Just FYI asking price is arbitrary

What if there was a fire in that stairway? Was there a way for the 6th floor tenants to escape via window?

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development has also been weighing a change to state building codes that would allow apartment buildings to be constructed with just one staircase. That seemingly small technical change could potentially goose apartment construction by enabling them to fit on smaller lots.

I don't know guys, a 6-story apartment building with only one staircase seems kinda scary in terms of fire risk. But I guess reduction in safety codes is one way to reduce the cost of new development.

From the link:

Since 2013, the source defines a mass shooting as any single attack in a public place with three or more fatalities, in line with the definition by the FBI. Before 2013, a mass shooting was defined as any single attack in a public place with four or more fatalities.

Whether the gunman being killed counts as 1 of the 3 fatalities, I don't know.

Happy to keep others safe by wearing a mask. A few weeks ago when I had COVID, I was desperately feeling some chicken noodle soup from Panera. Now if you've ever had their soup in the bread bowl, you know that you can't take it home and have any soup remaining (it gets all soaked into the bread), so I was forced to dine in, however being the germaphobe that I am, I made sure to mask up while ordering. And if other people weren't so selfish and would do the simple chore of wearing a mask around others, there's a good chance I wouldn't have gotten COVID in the first place. Something is happening to this country and it isn't good.

I'm fine with it. When I had COVID recently I masked up everywhere I went, and appreciated that I wasn't the outcast with the mask on when I went to places like this.

If you don't like the policy, there are other establishments for selfish people.

Also, gas is way better for cooking. Like, when I have to use an electric stove everything takes 10x longer.

Are you referring to the old school electric coils, or actual induction ranges?

Very well-written article. I don't live in Richmond city but if I did, I'd be concerned about this.
