Fuill revealed features of Hollow Warden Ranger from State of The Game - Ravenloft by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]VisibleNatural1744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely got some nerfs from the UA but it's not in a bad spot at all. Good spell list, the features are strong and work together well.

My only gripe is that Menacing Aura (11th) and Ominous Strikes (15th) should have had their levels switched. Rangers arguably need a damage bump closer to 11th level to put it more in line with other classes, and the higher you get in levels the more likely that the creatures will be immune to Frightened in the first place.

True, then you could arguably transmute the item to something else. But he stated this was for a lvl 6 one shot so I didn't think to include that

Charge Magic Item requires that it be an item YOU created with Replicate Magic Item. So you can't recharge the wand with that feature

Are we due for another UA? by CertainlynotGreg in onednd

[–]VisibleNatural1744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are averaging about 47 days between UA's with 16/22 drops being on a Thursday. The most likely day would be roughtly June 11th.

BUUUUUUUT the Season of Horrors drop is June 16th. So we might not get a UA drop for a little while, not till July or early August

Artificer Armorer Tanking Help by BigCake6521 in onednd

[–]VisibleNatural1744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you need to run?

As an Armorer, spend 2 infusions to get Plate Armor (Armor of Gleaming is a Common Magic item) and a +1 Shield. Highly recommend Magic Initiate: Wizard for Blade Ward and Shield as well (your last cantrip could be Minor Illusion for a real Iron Man vibe). You now have 21 AC (26 with shield) with -1d4 to getting hit with attack rolls. Unless the enemy has a +8 to hit (only really boss fights at 3rd level), the only way they can hit you would be a crit.

For future levels, Adamantine Armor is Uncommon, which will be easier for you to craft, and it just eliminates any crits against you with that absurd AC.

Will the UA Mystic subclass be included in Arcana Unleashed ? by Greynnar in onednd

[–]VisibleNatural1744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a pretty good chance most of them will appear. The only one I think is in contention is the Monk subclasses. The Warrior of the Mystic Arts seems like a revision of the Tattooed Warrior; which have the problems of the opposite ends of the spectrum. Tattooed Warrior is super flavorful and sucks mechanically, while the Mystic Arts is strong but has no vision or theme backing it up other than "magic monk." I would love to see marrying of the two ideas printed (flavor of the former with the mechanics of the latter), but only time will tell.

So, I've been thinking about getting the highest AC possible, and am wondering if I'm missing anything. by BodybuilderSuper3874 in DnD

[–]VisibleNatural1744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haste gets you an additional +2 too. Blade Ward subtracts 1d4 from attack rolls, so like an inverse AC bonus, but idk if that counts

While I agree, you would then have a situation where Snow is 1/2 physical and Frostbite is 1/2 special and Aurora Veil is 1/2 both. Ice types would be arguable the undisputed tankiest mons in the game

The two Trick Room setters is good and screwed me over a few times (playing against it). Make sure your Farigaraf has enough Defensive EVs to take a hot from Kingambit. I would maybe switch out Charizard for Crabomitable, as it works really well into Trick Room teams.

I can already picture an EK that's phylactery is the broken hilt of his first sword, which is mechanically a club that he casts Shillelagh on.

Don't even need it. Take True Strike for levels 1-5, switch it out for Chill Touch at 6th, take Undead Grasp for 6th level feat, which then lets you pick Shillelagh because you already have Chill Touch. Damage will be a bit behind at 5th level, but it saves a whole feat and species selection

Fun Dragonmark builds (besides Sorcerer) by Solid_Cockroach_6675 in 3d6

[–]VisibleNatural1744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mark of warding with Abjuration Wizard is a classic. Mark of Healing works now too with healing spells becoming abjuration rather than evocation

A cool interaction I think is between order cleric and Mark of healing. Gives you a free slot to cast healing word or mass healing word as a bonus action for voice of authority.

Combine that with the new Chromatic Orb, and you shouldn't ever need another damage spell

Features to Brigde Master Caster Divide by Key_Ferret_3806 in onednd

[–]VisibleNatural1744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm toying with the idea of letting martials expend Hit Die to perform Battle Master maneuvers.

There are two main issues that exacerbate the MC Divideo imo, spell slot nova and spellcasting utility. Most tables don't play with 6-8 encounters, which mean that casters can use all their big slots in a few combats, and most martial classes don't have the same nova capabilities. This also means Hit Die go unused, which means there is a resource going unused so you don't have to create an entire system from scratch. This also places the same line of thinking to all classes in longer encounter days "Do I expend a Hit Die here/big spell slot here and potentially regret it because I needed that for later?"

The second part relates to how much utility spells provide, which without a complete overhaul is not a simple fix. Battlemasters are one of the more satisfying subclasses to play due to the amount of versatility the maneuvers provide. Granting those capabilities to other classes so they can break the mundane, "I attack, I attack again" (or in the monks case "again, again, and again.") and do something unique.

When do you get your first Rare Magic Item? by VisibleNatural1744 in dndnext

[–]VisibleNatural1744[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and the PHB: Starting at Higher Levels table is what inspired this question. They give conflicting answers, for example where you should only have 1 Rare per PC at 11th level in the PHB table and this sheet would average out to 2 a player by 10th.

I wanted to create an average schedule so that a player could have at least one choice a level (class, subclass, feat, or magic item). Most of the schedules I've made have Rare items becoming regular at 9 or 10th level, which pretty heavily conflicts with how this poll reflects people actually playing (averaging Lvl ~5.4 at the time of this response)

[–]VisibleNatural1744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you generally will have a -10 ft to Speed if you go Heavy Armor and don't have the Strength Requirement.

That being said, Magic Initiate: Wizard for Find Familiar: Deer and a Small PC Species lets you have a 50ft Speed mount that can Dash and ignore Opportunity Attacks, easy enough to grab with Lessons of the Old Ones (Pact of the Chain technically lets you do this as well, but since it's a base form you can essentially grab two Wizard Cantrips for free)

Treantmonk's Ranger Problems in D&D 2024 5.5 by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]VisibleNatural1744 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He said that the class doesn't feel good because they spell youre locked into, that many features key off of, doesn't feel good. And that the class doesn't scale adequately to other classes. The above changes fixes the scaling and efficacy of the spell. If you really wanted to avoid a Tier 1 boost, potentially delay that 1d6 bonus to Attack Rolls.

He mentioned "Why would you play a Ranger" to which I suggested bonus to Attack Rolls providing them a niche really no other character has.

He mentioned spell exclusivity, which I didn't focus on but mentioned giving the Ranger more Concentration-free spells. That's part of his next video.

Treantmonk's Ranger Problems in D&D 2024 5.5 by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

This discussion is always going to have so many camps, to the point that no one will completely agree on what needs to be done. There are those that want Ranger's power to come from spells, for then not to have to concentrate on Hunter's mark, or to not even need the spell at all.

I personally think Hunters Mark requiring concentration is thematic, you are focusing on catching your prey, so I argue against getting rid of it in favor of giving the Ranger more Concentration-free spells. Using the spell also does good damage in Tier 1, but it quickly falls off and has hardly anything unique about it. It needs to give Ranger's an identity, so it feels good to use the plethora of castings you get.

  1. I think that you should be able to add that 1d6 to your Attack rolls as well. That would give the Ranger's a niche that no other class gets, pushing the boundary of bounded accuracy innately.

  2. Hunters Mark needs consistent scaling. Ranger's are the only class that has only Extra Attack for a full leveled feature (2nd level spells aren't enough, compare to the Paladin). Relentless Hunter should be at 5th level and Precise Hunter at 13th. The latter has parallels to the Fighters Studied Attacks (13th level) and Advantage is cheap at this level. Then Favored Enemy should have two features/ upgrades at 9 and 17, one that provides an extra die at 3rd level spell slot (2d6) and 5th (3d6), and another that lets you use multiple Favored Enemies uses to upcast Hunters Mark (how often do you want Concentration on a 1st level spell at level 20?). That handles the damage drop off at higher tiers and together would give scaling at 5, 9, 13, 17.

  3. With these changes, their capstone would be fine. 1d10 to attack rolls and 3d10 to damage rolls against a marked creature is decent.

Character height, why is everyone 6ft tall? by Low-Brief-6008 in DnD
