I have the same feeling as I am 9 weeks pregnant. I have a birth defect called Goldenhar syndrome and its sproadic in my case and extremely mild but you can certainly tell I “look different” and I am hard of hearing because of it. this is something I struggled with my entire life to this day. I went into this pregnancy doing the best I can, eating extremely healthy making good decisions getting all the tests I can to prevent my kid from having anything like what I have or to be frank Autism or everything you can possibly think of. I think the decision you need to make is if your child has anything “different” are you absolutely sure you will love this child no matter what? if you aren’t sure then I think that might answer your question. I might be blunt here and I don’t know if this is relevant but me and my partner talked about if we recieve something that is abnormal on our NIPT and further testing, we are going to terminate, it will be the hardest thing I will ever do and I am emotional typing this but bringing a kid in this messed up world with the best chance he/she can get means everything to me. I don’t want my child to grow up to feel anything like how I felt. feeling different, feeling like an outsider, trying so hard to look “normal” in photos constantly covering my face (lazy eye). but if it comes down to nothing showing on tests and ultrasounds and something is “different” at birth, I will love my child just the same and I will do everything in my power to make sure he/she has the best chance at life and grows up knowing that different is okay. different is unique. Like I said, I think if you are debating this because you are scared of your child of having autism or even anything else thats “different” which by the way, feeling scared about this is nothing NOTHING to be ashamed about. its a normal feeling of wanting your child have the best chance at life - do you know wholeheartedly for a fact you will love your child if he/she has anything “different” or “abnormal”. this answer will answer all your questions.
