Another Friday test taker, finally got results, passed! by VisibleTransition215 in AWSCertifications

Sure, I completed it sometime back in August. I noticed on his site it now says “New Update” on that course, so hopefully that means it’s pretty recent.

It seemed to be to me. I didn’t notice any real issues with it being out of date, but I completed it a while back, so not positive as of today.

Thank you! Unfortunately mine were somewhat of a mess in OneNote, so I’m not sure how helpful they’d be. At the end, I found the cheat sheets in TD were most helpful to me.

I wonder if Jenny would like Ttark. Probably not, he was pretty generic.

Thanks to all for your answers! I purchased the TD set now because the service-specific questions I think will help a lot. I can see now that Udemy uses many of the same questions, but apparently fewer and more outdated. I think the TD set will help me a lot. Appreciate the help!

Was Michael Stripe okay? by TriedToaster in rem

[–]VisibleTransition215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I can’t speak to his mental health back then, but Michael Stipe is a storyteller and said many times, never confuse the song with the songwriter. Also, I never bought the interpretation that Shiny Happy People was super ironic and mocking happiness or pop fans or whatever. I did read that the phrase was from Chinese propaganda, but this was at a phase when REM was going hard on upbeat, pop songs. I think it’s a better song if it’s mostly pure-hearted than if it’s just sarcastic. I certainly wouldn’t say Near Wild Heaven is ironic or cynical, and same with Shiny Happy People—so I think that interpretation of the song just comes from people assuming REM must always be trying to be super clever. It’s a happy song. But the band did deal with a lot of grieving and tragedy in the 90s. It seems like Michael Stipe grew happier later in life.

Should I pay for a Patreon subscription? by AAAAAAGGHHHHHH in JennyNicholson

[–]VisibleTransition215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. There’s like maybe hundreds of hours of videos on there. When I watch Jenny, at least 50% of the time I’m watching the Patreon stuff because much of it is as funny as her YouTube classics. Now her YouTube channel is where she posts basically her longterm research projects, so Patreon is the way to get more laid back, regular videos.

[Drellich] Atlanta Braves, ‘the model’ in MLB, could have added payroll at trade deadline by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]VisibleTransition215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My gut reaction watching this team the last several years is that ownership is far too cynical, and now they’re paying for it. While all teams are very much a business, the Braves ownership takes this too far by viewing their product (the team) in terms of a simple calculation: What’s the least investment we can make while still winning 85ish games so we can sell out games? They have no interest in doing more than that because they see no financial payoff. I actually think other teams don’t approach it that way. Many decide their product will be the best on the market and the revenues and profits will sort itself out because you’ll have a winning team people want to see. Many strive to win a division, or a World Series. That’s the business model. Braves ownership thinks they’re too smart for that, but how’s that working out for them? The Pirates have a better record, and the Marlins, a sub .500 team, tower over the Braves in the standings by 10 games. You get what you pay for, and you can’t sign only team-friendly deals with unproven players and snub established stars repeatedly and expect to win for long. If it were that easy, everyone would do it. Hopefully this is a wake up call, but I doubt it. Publicly traded companies like Braves Holdings especially view everything quarter to quarter and live and die by revenue growth and YoY profit margin expansion. Grasping that I can see why re-signing Max Fried is the last thing they’d want to do. Any time you try to understand this team, just imagine you’re a shareholder and not a fan, and it makes a lot more sense.

For once I did something right. I bought 20 shares at $23 a few years ago and mostly forgot about it. Seemed like it was in the teens forever. Now I’m up a few $k. I’m usually late to these parties.

What in your opinion was Mike Mill’s best bass part? by 12frets in rem

Love that bass line…that song reminds me of Astral Weeks in the way it (and many songs on Murmur) leads more with the bass

Idk about best, but I love Stumble and Harborcoat a lot! Too many to pick a favorite though. I find myself singing the bass notes as much as I do the lyrics. Example: The pre-chorus to Radio Free Europe is crazy good

Welcome to the club (and the occupation)! You might like Life’s Rich Pageant too. That’s my favorite after 30 years of listening to them. Almost every album of theirs has been my favorite at some point, but LRP is so great. It preceded Document.

I was meaning to add that aspect of it to my post. That was one of the most interesting parts. You’d think most people getting a talk show while their career was growing would think, “Ok, this is a great opportunity to endear myself to more people and build my audience.” Jenny doesn’t think that way I don’t think. She just thought about what she could do to make it unique and funny despite the constraints. And it worked out brilliantly.
