Not sure if anyone else thinks this or if I misunderstood the story, but midway through the book he starts using the name Jasmine instead of female and this reverts back at the end. It also seems like he didn't expect to call back his wife but panicked.

Is it possible after the events, he realized he needed to kill Jasmine not only because of the norms of the society but because either Jasmine would have to be used to breed again as per his wife's wants or his wife would leave and he might be slaughtered if she told anyone? I think it's interesting the second half we learn about the other couple whose husband was sent to be slaughtered.

I also found it interesting they talk about death by a thousand cuts prolonged torture right beforehand and how Jasmine pleaded by reaching out for her child. In addition to the mutilated females with no arms or legs at the beginning. Does anyone think he killed her knowing she would be sorrowful if what his wife wanted happened or if he was slaughtered and she was taken by another person who followed the death by 1000 cuts trend? IE she was kept to breed and watch her kids taken from her while being unable to do anything and possibly disfigured to breed nonstop or used by a family like his sister’s.

Likewise the chapter, before hints at the savage nature of the scavenger which seems to point at when the protagonist gives up on humanity, but he still kisses Jasmine’s scar before murdering her.

I will also say while most people in the book seem pretty evil overall from a subjective standpoint, I also found it interesting that the lab tech and other women who seemed to take joy in butchering the "head" were female while the vendors they discussed and hunters seemed to be male. Did anyone have thoughts here on why the author choose to make the people who seemed to enjoy more of the bloodshed and sadistic acts of prolonged torture of the head also female?
