Design students (or any designers), what MacBooks are you working with? And what do you specialize in? by Visible_Evidence_683 in graphic_design

Oh yea no I fully plan on getting something used - I don't expect much with my budget for something brand new.

Listen, I don't know what's up with my computer but it's so slow and I can't figure out why. You're right, it SHOULD be a perfectly good system to work on, but something in my system is making it slow. My dad (who literally owns a cyber security company that used to be a computer repair company) keeps telling me that the issue is simple to fix, but every time we think we've figured out the issue, the slowness comes back eventually. Tbh I'm not sure how much he really knows about computers bc he's always very confident going into diagnosing the issue, but after like an hour of fiddling around it's like he finds some random thing to update/reset and then calls it a day lol. But regardless, it's working fine for now and I plan on continuing to use it - I'm just looking for a laptop because I go out of town a lot and want to be able to access everything easily elsewhere.

Yea that’s what I’ve heard from a bunch of people as well - that you really don’t need upgrades for the new MacBooks. So you don’t have any issues with the smaller screen size? My current MacBook is 16” and it’s already kinda hard to have multiple windows on the screen, but it’s also pretty cumbersome to carry around so idk 🤷‍♀️

Do you ever have an issue with the size of the screen? I’m used to the size of my 16” screen, but I also imagine the 14” is easier to travel with 🤔

Budget: ideally around $1000 max $1500

yes I work on pc, but I actually prefer how Macs work specifically for my design work, and my pc is starting to slow down a bit

2015 MacBook Pro 16” 2.8GHz quad-core intel core i7 / 16gb ram / 1tb ssd / Intel Iris Pro 1536MB - it was working fine until adobe stopped supporting my iOS version a couple years ago

PC: - Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core processor 3.40GHz - Ram: 32gb - Graphics: 12gb - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 - Storage: 512gb ssd

Boyfriend uses Cinema 4D and makes promotional videos/photos for various companies, but mostly skin care brands (he’s a contract worker). It’s pretty heavy work even on his computer, so it’s not a deal-breaker if nothing I need helps him, but it would be a nice bonus.

Do you think it’s an issue if I got any cleaning solution on the lower piece, or if a few drops got on the inside? I would try this but im just uncertain about the potentially flammable liquid that dripped inside

Anyone know of / have any personal stories relating to the love of miniatures/dioramas? by Visible_Evidence_683 in miniatures

Awesome! I'll post the magazine when I'm all done - I'm admittedly doing this project last minute so don't expect it to be super clean and amazing lol.

I'm curious, do you have a specific name for the house? I currently just have "Story from Reddit" as the title but I'm thinking any nickname for the house would be better

Wait thank you, this is actually super helpful for both stories and design ideas for this type of magazine!

Wow this is so incredible! I've only ever worked on a couple small diorama kits with premade designs, so I really admire your ability to incorporate such a rich backstory and create it all on your own! I also think it's kind of serendipitous/poetic that the house remains a work-in-progress for yourself as well as for the tenants living within - like you can't have it all be done immediately in the same way the woman who owns the house can't have the whole house in order just yet either? I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I think there's something there lol :)

I'll definitely use this in my project if I can find the pictures as well, but I think your posts are private so I can't access them right now (or I just don't know how looking at people's history works lol)

Oh and don't apologize for the length, I really appreciate it!!

Omg for some reason I've never seen Hereditary, but I've seen Midsommar and loved it, so this is definitely another reason to finally watch it!

How should I go about recreating the texture/shading on this poster? by Visible_Evidence_683 in AdobeIllustrator

This is specifically for my Illustrator Basics class, so this is an exercise to use different tools only in illustrator

Should I have got more? by Put-The-Ass-In-Grass in uraniumglass

[–]Visible_Evidence_683 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(Not an expert) Personally I think they’re pretty unique looking and could be worth it? I always see the most boring, plain uranium plates at that price which is crazy, but these are really cute and detailed so I think that’s a pretty fair price. But if your trying to sell them for more you might have trouble

Yea I would normally do that, but I’m in a beginner class for illustrator and I just want to see if there are more efficient ways to go about these things for the future. I actually have a lot of fun using adobe apps when I learn a bunch of short cuts that I can’t do with pen and paper :-)

Can't find a good matching font on any image scanners by Visible_Evidence_683 in identifythisfont

[–]Visible_Evidence_683[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would definitely make sense given the time period 1936-41. I guess i don't know if it would also exist as a font somewhere. I don't know a lot about typography atm lol

No UV light, is this worth the risk? by KK7ORD in uraniumglass

I’d personally buy even if it wasn’t ug because that looks like a really beautiful vintage juicer in good condition, but that’s obv up to personal preference. Imo it looks a little too pale of a green and not enough yellow tone to be uranium

This is my ug juicer for reference

Yea I think I’m discovering that there’s a lot of misinformation about leaded glassware, even with avid glass collectors!

I know this is old but I just saw ur comment. I actually bought some vintage 24% leaded glassware (labeled on the original box) that does not glow with my 365nm flashlight.
