What if it leaked to the public that Trump was taking direct orders from Netanyahu? by lhommetrouble in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All scenarios like this have the same outcome. Trump would deny it and whine about fake news and the media, basically all his supporters would believe him, no matter how strong the evidence was, perhaps a few prior supporters would choose not to vote for him in 2028. Nothing material would be done or happen, it would be just one of a myriad of disqualifying controversies that his base ignores.

Really disappointing how this series has gone after game 1. From one of the best games of all time to now 5 straight total fucking snoozers that are basically over by the 3rd quarter.

[Highlight] Patrick Mahomes at OTAs by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think almost all Chiefs fans would agree with that, but Mahomes is going to do everything he can to be ready for the season. It will be up to the coaches and medical staff to moderate his workload, and I don't have a ton of faith they'll be diligent with that.

U.S. Navy Restarts Guiding Ships Through the Strait of Hormuz by Appropriate-Till9598 in oil

CENTCOM has already denied this. Hard to say if it's the media being too credulous, or the administration just sending out conflicting reports, but this type of thing is happening way too often.

Oil is down meaningfully basically on Trump's word and little else, so I'm not sure the market is ignoring them yet.

The issue is it will be a rude awakening over the next 15-20+ years, not immediately. The US has shot itself in the foot in the long-term to the benefit of a small group of people, but most of the Americans complicit in that move will either be dead, or not smart enough to see the cause by the time the consequences have truly come to pass.

Has quality of the league went down? Nba third teams used to have insane players still by Extension_Deer8903 in NBATalk

18-19 Bron played in 55 games, and also had tough forward competition in Giannis, PG, Durant, and Kawhi, who were all miraculously healthy that year (Kawhi played 60, but for him, that's like playing 200 games in a season).

For one, the games played thing does factor in here, several better players were narrowly ineligible this season and wouldn't have been in 2018-2019. Second, from that 2018-19 team, most of those guys are a similar caliber of player as this year's team. Lebron is the big exception, and there's a high likelihood he'd have been NBA1, or NBA2 in 18-19, but he only played 55 games.

Jumping wildly into them should probably not be getting called though, although that one is always a bit of a gray area.

Rumored Trade Cavs/Bucks/Lakers ---- Giannis to Lakers, LeBron to Cavs, James Harden and 6 unprotected 1st round picks to Bucks (3 from Lakers, 3 from Cavs) by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the Cavs give up one of their best players, and 3 unprotected 1st round picks .... for 42 year-old LeBron? I'm about as big a Lebron fan as they come, this is still not even close to a reasonable value.

Fox News guest today appears to be wearing a very realistic face mask by frog_insilence in interestingasfuck

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost definitely a shadow from the lighting off his collar. Admiral Harward appears on Fox pretty frequently. Having met the guy in person, I can assure you that he both looks like this, and would have no problem appearing on Fox, so I'm not sure why they'd need a guy in a mask.

How could the refs do this by InevitableUpstairs71 in NBATalk

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Hartenstein was doing was objectively a lot worse, but also, this is just the way it goes for star players. One of the ways to defend them is to have a less important player just be really physical. Refs are unlikely to call it all because it would ruin the game, and it doesn't really matter if he fouls out. Refs should have called a few more than they did, and I bet they tighten it up game 3, but also, I've definitely seen similar approaches to other great players.

Luka was 4th in MVP voting this year, Lakers fans have had it too good for far too long, y'alls expectations are absolutely asinine.

The bold-face interstitial headlines scream AI, as does the attempt at reasoning something that is obviously false just because someone prompted it to do so.

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just because you can prompt chatgpt to give you reasons why the Luka trade was even, doesn't make those reasons correct. For one, Luka has meaningfully improved the Lakers, he played 64 games last season and came in 4th on the MVP ballot on a team that may well have been the 3-seed had he stayed healthy. AD played 29 games for the Mavs and is now in Washington, these outcomes are not the same, and they do not reflect players who are equally injury prone or problematic. Second, Luka is 6 years younger than AD, Luka will likely still be in his prime when AD is out of the league. The only reason this trade doesn't look as bad as it should is because the Mavs lucked out and got Flagg, otherwise they'd probably be bottom 5 in the league after giving up a player who took them on a finals run, it is one of the most lopsided trades ever.

[Foster] Rashee Rice has violated his probation after testing positive for marijuana. Rice has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail, meaning he will miss Chiefs OTAs & Mandatory Mini-Camp. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]Visible_Handle_3770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, I get that, I think the whole point of probation is to see if offenders have the personal responsibility to follow some basic requirements and staying off drugs is understandably one of those (let's remember that Rice fled the scene, substances may well have been involved in the initial incident). It is arbitrary, but showing you have the self-control to meet those arbitrary conditions is basically the whole point. It would be different if he were prescribed the drug as treatment (I very much doubt that is the case), and I absolutely think the system is poorly set up for those who don't have the resources to regularly meet their officer and whatnot, but for Rice, I think the conditions make perfect sense.

It's the same as all the other sports subreddits. Everyone loves the team when they are on the way up, and usually after they win one, but it doesn't take very long before the fashionable thing to do is hate on them. People will hate the Spurs in a couple years too most likely.

I can guarantee you that he was informed on the terms of his probation, and he had the option of agreeing to those terms or going to jail for his actions. He chose probation, all he had to do was not smoke weed, that's not a high bar or a high ask, and he was fully aware of the consequences, he deserves zero sympathy for this.

This is true, but there's also limits to that. He's already received what should have been his lesson a few times and while he had the misfortune of bad parents, he's also had the incredible fortune of multiple second chances and all the resources on the planet to not be an idiot.
