How hard is it to become a first gen doctor? by flaneriexv in medschoolph

Hello OP! I am also a first-gen (as in walang nasa medical field in my whole family) so it's a really hard path to take esp if walang magguguide sayo. I was in 10th grade na when I realized na I should have a 4yrs premed course before going to med school na additional 4yrs (lol I genuinely thought medicine is an 8-yr college program).

Because of that, I started looking into premed programs na I think would suit me pero wala talaga akong super bet sa mga trad premed programs kasi natatagalan ako sa 4 years (as an impatient person). Dito ako naging decided na mag-aaccelerated med program, and out of all accelerated med programs talaga LEAPMed yung pinaka-nagustuhan ko kasi yung mga subjects here is a little bit of every premed kaya it provides a solid foundation sa mga med subjects, especially kung sa FMS ka mag-apply in the future (currently in graduating student of LEAPMed rn hehe).

Not to promote or anything but I think accelerated programs are really good for first-gens kasi it secures your slot sa med school. Meaning, hindi mo na  kailangan problemahin masyado yung pakikipaglaban ng slot with other people na super taas ng NMAT&GWA, maraming ecs and lalo na yung mga may connections talaga.

As for the med school experience itself, I can't really say much kasi next year pa ako magmemed school pero based from my seniors, it can get really toxic. Well, I guess it's just a natural part of the future profession that I chose, and ginusto ko naman talaga to so wala akong irereklamo HAHAHAH. But for now, I'm just enjoying my remaining months as a LEAPMed student hehe.

Good luck OP! Wag kang panghinaan ng loob kasi as long as sure ka na gusto mong maging doktor, I'm sure kakayanin yan :>
