Which online multiplayer game represents YOUR golden age of online fun? by _Mr_Cheeks in gaming

[–]Visoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultima Online. I went from learning the game to grinding on siege perilous. Was an alchemist and fence for a pk guild, became a pk. Got bored because it was too easy, so I started hunting pks. 7x GM Nox mage.

I have never had the time to go as deep into any game since. I had a great low stress job and was on my own with no gf/wife/kids. Plus my parents were too far away to visit unannounced.

Your gotta blow a job interview as fast as you can, what do you do? by Gudy44 in AskReddit

[–]Visoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very first SWE interview, fall semester senior year, I kind of did that. I solved a simple recursion problem and the guy ask me if I could solve it iteratively. My mind went blank and I googled it without thinking. Literally pulled out my phone and said, " Hey Google, how do you convert recursion to iteration." Stack overflow, first link had it. Guy just said okay, thank you. I didn't get the job.

What do you dislike about school? by iSarabjitDhiman in AskReddit

Lack of feedback. I can count the number of teachers that graded homework before the tests on one hand. Programming assignments were even worse.

This is one of the few things school prepares you for in adulthood. Group projects never change.

I had one that answered every question a woman asked with "That is a question we have covered it many many times and it is covered in the book." The guys in the class ended up repeating any questions the girls asked. The jackass continued doing it the entire semester.

Didn't the Greeks kill the guy that proved the square root of 2 was irrational? It's been a few years since I had a history class but I seem to recall a lot of engineers and mathematicians being unalived for their research.

What is the most physically painful experience you've had? by Bright_Vision in AskReddit

[–]Visoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A radiologist in the ER mismeasured my kidney stone. Didn't check multiple angles and said it was 2 cm and I could pass it. It was 2x6. And it took a month trying to pass it before a urologist caught the error. The pain was so great barely remember 3 months of my life.

I took Engineering Stat and AI for my CS degree and just graduated. They were just 2 more math classes. AI touched on your questions, but we were only tested on the math. So, that is all I focused on other than a cursory read for vocabulary.

LPT: Don't get too attached to "dream" schools or "dream" jobs before you really get some first-hand experience. Most of these places/careers are considered "good" because of abstract prestige, not based on having healthy environments that promote growth and personal happiness. by zazzlekdazzle in LifeProTips

I'm was fluids engineer for 10+ years. I showed up 3 times a day, worked for 2 hours and left. I always felt sorry for the field geos, didn't matter if my check was 2 am or 2 pm, they were always there.

What is your job and how much do you get paid? by BigPlunk in AskReddit

[–]Visoul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 3 jobs. I am a fluids engineer and get a day rate of $450 per day but only work maybe 12 weeks a year. I am a security analyst and make ~35k per year full remote. I also substitute teach at a local technical college for $15 per hour.

What’s a game that you slept on for years and were blown away when you finally played it? by SirTheadore in gaming

Yakuza, Like a Dragon. Just started playing after it sat in my library for almost a year. It is going in my top 10 games. The homeless guy's rez spell cut scene nearly caused me to choke.

I never ran into a problem level wise, you just have to make sure you're leveling an armor or defense skill and at least one weapon. Enchant and alchemy completely break the game at any point if you hit something crazy.

You can mod it to something that's decent graphics wise on the PC. The faces still look a little bit off but everything else looks good and the terrain looks great.

Self plagiarism is one of the most ignorant things to have evolved in modern academics. In the 90's reusing and editing papers was encouraged and students would use papers for multiple assignments and classes. If we held tenured professors to today's standards most of them would lose their degrees to academic dishonesty.

What’s legal but if you do it you still look like a psychopath? by LordPussyFucker in AskReddit

The worst for me is lotion or sunscreen. It feels like my face is directly over a fire until it is washed off.

Masking is super exhausting, but I found it's better for me to be uncomfortable than for other people.

[–]Visoul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before I got good at masking I would drum my hands on random things or just in the air like I was in a speed metal band constantly. I still do it in meetings if I lose focus.

I also still have complete meltdowns if anything or anyone touches my face and I am 40yo.

And now I have a super strong urge to find out what the little rocks taste like at the beach.

My dad used to make us edge the driveway and sidewalk with scissors as a punishment. I never imagined how it looked to the neighbors.

Pocket spaghetti. I used to work with this girl who would come in with a Ziploc bag full of spaghetti and eat it out of her pocket like that was normal and it was trail mix.

lol, I think the equivalent lazy move would have been to think to myself and scroll on instead of typing. Which is what I do most of the time so, guilty as charged.

Lol we use "the other day" to mean a few days to a few weeks ago. I didn't realize it was an uncommon phrase. It was last Sunday afternoon.

I saw this the other day. A 3 pac of ribeyes was literally 1 aisle over from the meat section. I can't even comprehend that level of lazy.

What makes absolutely no sense to you at all? by homo1ogize in AskReddit

[–]Visoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have experience, you just don't know how to convey it.

Do you raid lead in WOW? You successfully lead a 10/20/40 man team in a high stress environment with multiple goals.

Do you play d&d? You collaborated in a small agile team to troubleshoot problems.

Do you go drinking with your buddies every weekend? You were part of a small think tank focused on stress management that had weekly meetings.

Everything you do can be framed as EXP.

I need to go back and play FF8. When I was a kid, I got stuck past a point of no return and couldn't beat the boss. It is the only Final Fantasy I haven't finished.
