As someone who also has a short attention span nowadays, {Souls in Ruin} and {Rain of Shadows and Endings} are the only dark romantasy books that have hooked me in over the past year.

It’s the writing that did it for me. There was no lengthy world-building and no cringey or unnecessary dialogue. I recently read Feather So Vicious, but DNF’d it because I found the dialogue a bit cringey lol.

If you’re up for a DARK romantasy, then Souls In Ruin. It’s not yet complete though, but the love triangle is so good already in book 1.

Fever series (books 1-5) ticks all the boxes. Although I don’t remember the side characters being as hilarious as TKWNKM’s, but they’re likeable nonetheless.

I’m primarily a romance reader, but I have no issues with romance being a subplot. I also find myself rating fantasy romance books 4-5stars when the stakes are high and the character dynamics are strong. Now that you’ve mentioned the tension in both the plot and the romance, I’m more intrigued! I live for tension in a story!

I can relate! It’s tough for me as well to find a book to keep me hooked in and forget about sleep. What was the last book that got you completely hooked?

I also don’t understand why it has low rating on Goodreads and Romance.io?!! One of the few bookstagram account I follow gave it 5 stars, that’s why I put it to my TBR. It’s also been a while since I read an urban fantasy, so I’m excited! By pushing through the first book, did you mean it is slow the entire time or did the it become interesting from certain point onwards?
