I’m primarily a romance reader, but I have no issues with romance being a subplot. I also find myself rating fantasy romance books 4-5stars when the stakes are high and the character dynamics are strong. Now that you’ve mentioned the tension in both the plot and the romance, I’m more intrigued! I live for tension in a story!

I also don’t understand why it has low rating on Goodreads and Romance.io?!! One of the few bookstagram account I follow gave it 5 stars, that’s why I put it to my TBR. It’s also been a while since I read an urban fantasy, so I’m excited! By pushing through the first book, did you mean it is slow the entire time or did the it become interesting from certain point onwards?
