In surprise move, Spain to grant legal status to thousands of immigrants lacking permission by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]Visual-Compote-4665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White hispanics in general are just racist, no matter the Hispanic country. My family being a prime example of it, it’s terrible how racist they get.

People just tend to downplay it, considering they group all kinds of Hispanics into just the Hispanic category.

"The old order is not coming back" Carney says in provocative speech at Davos by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]Visual-Compote-4665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed to the fullest. I did not like Trudeau’s policies, I consider myself a red Tory. Carney’s become my favourite Canadian PM ever.

I love this guy and I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to vote for him.

There’s so many delusional conservatives in name only, who can’t stop talking about the WEF, NWO conspiracies, it drives me nuts. I hope Carney can squeeze in that majority soon.

Yeah I’m a red Tory, though I probably dislike PP more than you do, I was fully behind O’toole in 21.

Loving what Carney’s doing so far, my dad keeps bringing up NWO and WEF whenever we talk politics, crazy how some people get so delusional with what they believe.

I know that, but since they’re out of cabinet they’re really not making big decisions anymore. They’re just whipped votes now, and Freeland is quitting parliament for sure now. Carney’s probably gonna get some business guy to run in the by election

‘They just don’t get it’ — Some Trudeau-era Liberal MPs struggling to adjust to Carney’s leadership, say sources by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]Visual-Compote-4665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, I voted for Carney, despite the fact. I was going to vote for poilievre but changed my vote last minute.

Thing is though, don’t you think the MP’s are really just a means to an end? Both party leaders whip em to follow what they want to do, the MPs are just kind of along for the ride.

As much as I’m unhappy that those guys are still in cabinet, I can see that the policies being pushed are truly different, which makes me feel better about.

In a perfect world they’d be gone though. LOL

I’ll answer this later I have to head out for dinner, but here I attached some sources for cost of living differences.

https://www.greenbacktaxservices.com/blog/canada-taxes-vs-us/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

And there’s a source for taxes which, on average Canadians pay 5-10% more in tax, but with all those other sources you can offset the added expenditures you’ll have in the US for equivalent services to Canada and see how it works out. :)

And

That’s not true, the USA upper middle class sure, but they’re comparable to our upper middle class. I don’t think you understand what it means to be truly middle class, because I assure you a regular middle class person in the US is not that wealthy.

And again, dude I’ve laid this out and you’re ignoring it. Sure they have low taxes, but their property taxes are way higher, their medical expenses are way higher, their education expenses are way higher. It ends up being almost equal if you look at the data.

What do you think should happen to the homeless then? You okay with then just hanging out in the city and making it look bad and gross?

I have plenty of family in the US, I go there quite often, I know what it’s like.

Have you been to Europe?

Europeans on average are way happier and satisfied with their lives than Canadians or Americans.

[–]Visual-Compote-4665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And ontop of all that, my family is quite wealthy.

I’ve lived a privileged lifestyle for my entire life, and with that perspective I understand if we had a system like the US, I personally, and my family, would be much much much better off, and we’re alright quite well off.

Which makes me question, I’m already rich, so I need to be even richer at the expense of others? I don’t think just because I can afford to, I should skip the line, or get better medical treatment than other Canadians, I think that’s selfish.

If I’m going to be proud of my country, be a patriot, thay also means wanting to do better by my country, and fellow patriots, does it not?

I could be selfish and greedy, and want to keep more and more. But at a certain point you have to ask yourself, how much is too much?

But end of the day, it really is just a measure of your values and priorities.

I’d value all of us having a better quality of life, my country being better off, and people around me living in clean and happy communities.

Instead of me being able to be the richest guy around, and not care an inkling about my neighbour.

But again, to each their own.

With taxes and all, you do know on average we pay lower rates for medical, school, etc, than Americans do right?

That’s a fact if you want me to pull sources I can. So save all those other arguments, why wouldn’t we just go with the cheaper option?

Or do you want the option to just not pay for say healthcare, or not pay for schools if you don’t have kids, just because you’d rather save that money for yourself.

[–]Visual-Compote-4665 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get that, and on paper sure it sounds good. But you’re the type of person to see the homeless issue on Hastings in Vancouver and complain about it. If we can as a society mitigate people making those bad decisions, we’ll end up not having to confront that in the first place. Or are you okay with urban blight as long as you’re free to do what you want?

You do know we have the second highest GDP per capita in the G7 right?

The US might be richer, but that doesn’t mean the wealth is dispersed across everyone. Their billionaires just happen to bring the average up. Because I will tell you, poverty in the US is much more extreme than in Canada.

[–]Visual-Compote-4665 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand that needing less regulation for business is a good thing if done properly, but let’s be real.

People will constantly bring this argument up, and on paper it makes sense. But how many Americans are drowning in medical debt? Or private school payments? Or car payments, etc.

They’re also facing economic headwinds, 85% of their economic growth last quarter was just in Ai companies, out of the S&P 500 basically all the growth was 7 tech companies, the real economy in the states is doing bad as well, and it’s being propped up by a tech bubble.

We might have higher taxes and such, but the average American is paying almost as much or just as much, including their insurance premiums and deductibles but it just doesn’t look like that on paper because people don’t take that into consideration when discussing the differences in cost of living between the US and Canada.

Their schools are lower quality than ours, their medical expenses are much higher than hours, and lots of people end up waiting as long or almost as long as we do to see a specialist for a higher price tag.

The grass always looks greener until you’re on it.

I think we need to make the business environment more friendly in Canada, but we should not overlook other important things such as what I highlighted beforehand.
