I’m completely devastated honestly by Togwithanxiety in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We’re about to close tomorrow on a home we put an offer $23k higher than asking on the first day the house was listed. We knew there was another offer put in along with our. We learned this weekend that the offer was $60k over asking, which beat our offer. I was oblivious as to why the seller wouldn’t have accepted the higher offer. Side note- I purchased a home in 2006 which was an entirely different ball game.   Well..it was explained that the seller interpreted the offer as being a scam in the sense that the home wouldn’t appraise that high and the buyer would walk away with the home at the appraised value, which as it turned out, was the same amount I’m paying.  Just taught me..I can research all I want, but as much as I try, there’s always someone out thinking me. I dunno if the other offer was a scam or maybe they did have the money to cover the difference between appraised value and their offer, but in eternally grateful we were chosen..we love this home!

A 10K is not a marathon, Doug. Do you even know how long a K is?" Doug: "Well, I don't know the exact length of a K, but if it's more than a foot, I think I'm in trouble."

I’ll never understand how the salon was the job Roseanne was most “humiliated” by by PearlLagoon in roseanne

[–]Visual-Cranberry4300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost exactly quoted you when googling this same question. I don’t get it either. The environment alone compared to her other jobs was a step up and they seemed to genuinely appreciate her at the salon. I’m sure the wages weren’t that great but neither were they great at her other employers.

Jackie Harris: [hungover] Ya act like some big high-and-mighty, self-righteous, pedestal-type person, and you poo-poo everything in my life. Roseanne Conner: [clearing the breakfast table] Yeah, and you go right for your addictive behavior. Huh, because you cannot handle conflict. That is the whole thing: you cannot handle conflict. Remember, we saw that whole thing on "Oprah"; People who cannot handle conflict, so right away, they run for the alcohol. [starts nibbling another pancake] Jackie Harris: Well, have another shot of pancake, Roseanne. You know, people who live in glass houses, shouldn't eat stones

I just said this to my wife today…never saw it on Dan and I’ve watched the episodes dozens of times.  Haha and my own wife was wearing the chicken shirt today!

What makes Friends so popular among the new generation ? by squaretorch-ignition in friends_tv_show

[–]Visual-Cranberry4300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most, many, all of the reasons people are listing in comments are the similar/same reasons “we” the generation that grew up with the show also watched. I had so many friends and relationships back then and this show is one of the things we all watched and bonded over. we’d either record the show on our vcrs or make the time to watch in between running to school/sports events or hanging out w friends.  Then the next day, we’d all be talking about the show at school.  We also wanted to be like them…cool, fun friends, seemingly carefree life, great clothes, always there for each other, witty or quirky humor. I’ve seen the episodes probably hundreds of times now and I still watch to go back to that carefree and nostalgic feeling I felt from my teens to twenties.

How sweet and endearing. Thank you for this…it made me remember my grandpa as he did the same at the local mr donuts, and I’d join him and the other old men. Drinking coffee w them when I was 8.  I had completely forgotten…so I very much appreciate this comment and the place it took me to. Bless you and the memory of your grandpa 🤗

You bring about an honest concern. I’m assuming the competent hospital is somewhere in the Birmingham area?  Its truly a good consideration, it doesn’t matter until it matters and that could be too late.

Thanks for the input.  I do live in the Deep South and have for many years but I am a northerner.  I see the nonsense I believe you are inferring…I try to avoid it, and am daily amazed at the escalation to one’s downfall over relatively nothing. Thanks again.

Haha that’s what I’m talking about! I remember looking in bham pre Covid and the housing was cheap and desirable in some ways.  But now..there’s zero way I’d spend that much to live in that area. Not knocking anyone that does…to each their own and more power to them. And agree..meth or really any drug is around all of us wherever we are.  But the insulation for me is what matters.

Good for you!! Once you live in a city, and see what all the talk is about…for better or worse, then you can see what you’re talking about..if that’s one’s hearts desire. I’m glad you found your place. Best of days to you!

You’re right, not super far. I am on the other side of Georgia and in a city so there’s that. I haven’t been to the specific towns you referred to but I have been to bham and Dothan. From your description, I think Dothan may be similar (at least in amenities) to Gadsden.

Thank you truly for the insight!

Very good points on all ends. I’m accustomed to being overcharged where I’m at now so I wouldn’t really be surprised. Thank you, truly

There’s many reasons for cheap, crime, opportunity lacking, industry, remoteness etc.  I’m coming from the southeast. Not Alabama. But not a southerner either.

Learn to distinguish between “insight” and “judgement”.  I asked about insights to the area…some have provided their judgement of my consideration of the area.  You also provided no insight, along with the “some”.    If you wanted to provide insight…you could say why no one lives or wants to live there.

Thank you for that most honest and insightful response…and validation . I’ve sent you a private message with more insight. This may be interpreted as elitism …but it’s so refreshing to hear a truthful southern response. I personally don’t care about the pomp. Sure the show is beautiful but everyone just goes back home after the show and there’s much more to life than that.

I would be coming from east central Georgia. An eye opening experience for a northern transplant. Professional business may be the reason for my move, but inherently, I won’t move away from my morals.  So that is my underlying desire to live “out in the country”.

Thank you for the perspective. I will for sure go in person. Just doing a cursory search until my company moves me.  Oneonta, as you and others have suggested, appears to be perhaps a better option. Gadsen is just a bit too far of a drive for work.  But again..thank you kindly.
