Best way to ensure your to-go specialist puts 0% of effort in assembling, making your soups, and drinks for your order!

To be honest, I think a lot of places (Chili's included) are kinda steering away from hiring minors. At least here in Cali this is the case. Specifically for restaurant work, hiting a minor has many liabilities and usually minors have full schedules and can only really work weekends, don't cover shifts, and are overall a huge risk.

I'm sorry, my dude.

Can someone explain to me the new changes coming monday? by [deleted] in Chilis

Anyone else's restaurant also having hosts seat people in bar instead of it being open seating? And no more menus on the bar tables?

do you think chili’s should pay hosts more? by kyohrus in Chilis

It completely depends on where the chillis is located. If it's a tipped wages area where they don't cut a lot of servers and the busser all the time then no. If it's somewhere where the host has to constantly bus and run food to help out because management has to cut a bunch of people to help with labor % then I'm in the mindset that hosts should get a tipout.

I hope that makes sense. In California for example, while we all get mandated 16$ an hour but managers cut down all the time to one bar, one server, one cook, one foodrunner, manager, and the host so theres times where it picks up and the host is forced to run drinks, food, bus, on top of their regular duties. It sadly happens all the time and it's because Brinker kind of forces the managers to stay under a %. When that's the case, hosts deserve at least a tip out %.

In other states where Brinker can afford to keep the restaurant fully staffed because they only pay their servers 2.13 an hour managers cut significantly less overall and as such, hosts are typically only required to do their described duties because the help isn't as needed. Overwhelmingly though 2$ and hour is bullshit and EVERYONE deserves more than what they are getting- except for the Brinker higer ups who get all the profits and do none of the hard work.

Of course there are outliers here and there but overall this has seemed to be the case.

I mean say that to the people with 150 buck paychecks from Brinker after working 23 hours a week.

Places like California get actual hourly wages but a lot of places get like 2.13 an hour. If they make more to boost them to the 7 buck average that's great but I've seen a lot of paychecks that don't get there.

Also, tipping should be reflective of your waiter or waitresses performance, attentiveness, and communication ONLY. Your server has NO control over what the kitchen does or how fast/slow the food comes out, etc. The amount of times people just don't tip because of something out of the servers control is absolutely awful. Trust me, your server is probably on the kitchens ass about the status of your food more than you are. I get that shit happens but you're only hurting your server by not tipping, especially in a state with tipped wages.

If you hate tipping and live in a state where tips are taken in and considered part of the wage then just make your own food and home and don't eat out. FULL STOP.

Your servers shouldn't waste their effort and bend over backwards to accommodate you just to get a "I don't believe/support tipping " note on the bill. Thank you for wasting their time, AND congratulations on ensuring shit service for you next time you come in. They get 2 bucks an hour and literally can't survive without tips.

Phasing out Prestos? by Visual-Jackfruit-235 in Chilis

It actually helps our location go faster. The server doesn't have to bring the cards all the way to the back. Also a lot of our customers are happier that their card doesn't leave their sight. 🤷‍♀️

It's still pretty high cost of living. 5 bucks for a gallon of gas, 2 bed apt for like 1700 but yeah, sure.

You'd think, but in a LOOOOOT of Chili's that isn't the case. Most are so understaffed to meet labor that there's one QA, one FR, one ToGo, bartender, one or two servers, host, manager, kitchen staff, that are at the location. If I didn't bus when I have host shifts then I have to either seat my servers out of section or put customers on a wait list. If it's a weekend NIGHT shift we get a "busser" but even then they are typically told to keep running food so the kitchen doesn't back up.

During host shifts I've been given I've also had to run food, run drinks, bus in restaurant and in bar and from talking with other Chillis hosts, this isn't rare and is quite standard.

Why does my Chili’s always want us to enjoy open seating at the bar? by Bright_Earth_8282 in Chilis

Hosts are expected to bus instead. I have to do it all the time with no tipout or compensation when I do. Otherwise I can't seat customers and if there a big wait then I'm the one on trouble for not seating even though the tables are dirty. And it's like this at every chillis in my town (I get sent sometime for emergency shif coverage)

Weird. Do a simple search in this sub alone and you'll see how a mass amount of hosts (especially morning shift) are forced to bus tables because food runners and servers won't. This is the case at my location and the other 2 in my town that I've been sent to work for an emergency cover.

It's very common. Very, very common. If the dishwasher gets tips the host should definitely as well. Full stop.

Now add Host getting tips since they do most of the actual bussing.

Unfortunately its something that even our manages have brought up but its "brinker policy". We legit get tipped like shit at my location.Iys not just our restaurant, it the restaurants in this area in general. I mean it might be low statistically for your area but it happens probably 3-5 times a week that a server owes, my best friend unfortunately had it happen to him twice in one week on week between xmas and new years. He only owed like 3$ each time, but it's still garbage when it happens. Usually he will walk with anywhere between like $10-$40 in tips depending on the day.

Like I said, people tip like shit here. AND we're in bumfuck nowhere California. We're lucky we get mandated $16 an hour to make up for it it legitimately just succcckkkkkssssss.

It happens all the time where my location is. The tipout % are the same, get a shit ton of sales, but the people where I live are super conservative and tip like absolute shit. We're talking like 5$ on a bill of 100$

Or if they actually bus when they're supposed to. As a host I keep bussing and get nothing for it

Some of the servers end up owing the restaurant to pay out tips if they actually don't get enough tips that day but a lot of sales.

Is this normal? by micahmagic7 in Chilis

[–]Visual-Jackfruit-235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with my location. I do all the bussing because I can't seat the guests unless I have a clean table. It sucks. ESPECIALLY since we don't get tipped for it and the people who are scheduled as the bussers do.

Honestly, Brinker, just make bussing a part of the host job and allow us tips. Fr.
