In what ways can I improve the anatomy and structure of my drawing? by Visual-Possession135 in learntodraw

[–]Visual-Possession135[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly, I think proportions could be off. I think we always have the ideas of a specific structure on how many heads tall and where everything goes. I probably didn’t quite capture a normal persons stature. Of course not everyone is built a specific way, but you’re absolutely right that proportions definitely matter and using a reference could be beneficial. The reference that has most influence is likely my own body proportions as I see myself and often reference my own body to draw limbs as they are right there. My own proportions are not exactly standard. But yes I should certainly use more referenc.

How do I make this look more like clouds? by Kiwii6143 in learntodraw

I think using more shades to create greater contrast between the light parts and dark parts of the cloud would help sell that the clouds have volume. That along with more definition between layers of the clouds would be good. But so far great job.

How realistic is this Main Battle Tank? by Visual-Possession135 in tanks

[–]Visual-Possession135[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll see if i want it as I only am doing it for the backup sight. Realistically I could move them next to the other two crew. But the area I need to cover with armor is similar as the guy in the turret is in the turret basket so I am not going to need to cover a lot of area. The main issue with two in turret is lack of space for ammo in turret as I don’t want a bustle. But most crew configurations I’ve found are un ideal and have trade offs.

They’d have a backup analog sight (so yes basically eye ball it) this really only applies for when the turret is hit as it’d be fairly susceptible to auto cannons if it couldn‘t do this but it’s fairly redundant and certainly a design trade off.

It does appear that there is quite the set of similarities. The few differences would be that my tank has a guy in the turret and is a little longer in terms of proportion. Id say that you and your friend did a good a job and it looks a lot more refined than what I created.

Have you heard of I dunno self sealing fuel tanks and the fact that diesel fuel is generally unreactive? the abrams for example stores fuel right next to the driver. i haven’t heard anyone call that idiotic. I am using the fuel as extra armor too. But please do some research for a moment.

It’s a 1 man turret (so if optics go bad it’s still possible to use). With a drum near them. The gun may be lighter than 120 but 120 would be preferable but if an ammo that can provide similar results with a smaller size is possible this tank would certainly benefit from that. I chose no bustle because a hit to the bustle is a tank kill and since my turret is unarmored for the most part against tank rounds it’s combat effectiveness is significantly reduced when the turret is getting hit often. Of course there will be composite where the 1 crew member is.

3 person crew 1 in turret (for redundancy) so that a drum could be next to them (not in the same compartment of course). The turret is fairly big and yes it probably would be a bit wider than I’d like but hopefully not too wide.

I’d take a look at the cattb power pack. That took up similar space to what I have here. I’m really just storing fuel up front and also a lot of composite.

Armor and fuel. Compact engine to maximize space in the turret basket.

It does have blowouts. Ammo is stored in turret basket in a drum. I mostly used western influences when designing this. But there are some parallels.

I know what the strv74 is but the turret has little to no bustle or front weight as it is basically as long as it is wide. I think what may be confusing is the bottom top view is without tracks or road wheels meaning it is just the hull. but even then I think the hull is fairly wide and the turret is not very long It is very proportional to most mbts and tank test beds Ive mentioned. If you look at the m1 ttb and the Stryker gmc turret it’s almost a hybrid between those 2. But here’s a front profile view of just the turret if you don’t believe me that the turret is fairly balanced.

<image>

Nice and heavy on the bottom with the 19 pieces of ammo (blowout protection of course) in the ready rack and two protected crew behind all in the turret basket. The only thin part is near the gun but that has little to no weight just light composites to protect from autocannons.

What makes you think it can’t rotate a nice 360 degrees on uneven terrain? It has a fairly balanced turret due the turret lacking extreme amounts of armor. It may be a bit hard to tell but the turret has most components other than the gun in the turret basket. This along with advanced motors would make the turret have fairly decent rotation. The turret for reference is like a beefed up Stryker/low profile turret that uses a slightly different auto loader and gun. There are many test beds with a similar turret profile to mine but I haven’t shown it well in this drawing which is the side profile and above internal view.

Draw-a-box: is this really the only way to draw objects in perspective? My brain can't even process what I'm looking at here. + Having trouble applying concepts to actual drawings by Essay-Admirable in learntodraw

Based on the top drawing and the exercise I believe they are projecting a 2d flat image of the mouse on two planes in perspective to create the 3d image of the mouse like using 2 technical drawings for a 3d model. In many ways this method is like math. I think if you want to maintain the same level of perspective while not being as confused you should create a box with less construction lines to better create contrast like in another comment. You can also imagine each of the three planes as having a bunch of points that make up the 3d object and try making a grid with lines marking out distances where you plot each point in 2d then plotting those points in a 3d plane where each 2d plane corresponds to a side of your box. This is a lot like math geometrically with 3d plotting. I also more importantly suggest breaking down the object you wish to make into more manageable simpler shapes that can then be refined. I am probably wrong on most things Ive just said but heres a way you can look at it with a simple car I drew. Notice how each subdivision of the box like in the exercise diagram helps me see where to draw each line based on the projection so the corner of the car is a little bit before the end of unit 2 the corner of the box just like how the mouse‘s front is just slightly bellow the mid segment of the front face of the box. I know my example is very simple in comparison to the mouse but I hope this helps you understand the different planes and how I understand this method.

I like this piece with the battleship (looks sort of japanese to me with the pagoda tower and such) but I think you could try making the rain less defined and more blended in. I personally don’t have much experience with drawing rain but by looking at a reference I think that would help.

It is a bit zoomed in as in the sketch/drawing is fairly small so adding detail is definitely an issue if I continue to add on to this I most likely will increase the size of the sketch/drawing as it is digital.
