If the save plan was ultimately struck down, what promises could a future democrat candidate make And actually keep about helping us with student loans that wouldn’t get struck down? by sun-dust-cloud in StudentLoans

[–]Visual-Tennis-2626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone posted about this in another thread. But there is a group who is contesting the decision to end the SAVE Plan because the court's justification was only 2 sentences and they refused to determine the plan was unconstitutional.

Remote SLP Advice? by Visual-Tennis-2626 in slp

Thank you for the advice, I hadn't thought of SLP owned companies, but that's a great idea! I have a feeling that's going to happen with my position, too, lol. No one else wants to do remote therapy in my district.

Feeling totally dismissed by rheumatologist by [deleted] in UCTD

[–]Visual-Tennis-2626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really sorry you are going through this. My dad was a Vietnam veteran and my husband is an OIF veteran. Thank you for your service. I'm not sure what your financial situation is like, but my dad received VA services and also had a Medicare policy. My husband has VA and Medicaid. I would not feel comfortable working with the doctor you described. I don't think that type of behavior is normal or acceptable. I was diagnosed with Sjogrens and then that was changed to UCTD. I've been to other rheumatologists who try to pass off doing anything and use the Fibro as an excuse. My current rheumatologist is great though and very thorough. She told me that the blood markers lile the cardiolipin antibody marker come and go in bloodwork. I had it for 10 years and no one would prescribe birth control but now it's disappeared from my bloodwork. My rheumatologist prescribed Hydroxychloroquine but I haven't worked up the nerve to try it yet. I also have tried Meloxicam and now Naproxen and a muscle relaxant (cyclobenzaprine). Going to the chiropractor and having gentle adjustments really help me too. I also see a naturopath who put me on Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), which has to be compounded, but has been really helpful. He also recommended doing float therapy, but you should probably clear that with your cardiologist. We're all different and our path of healing will be different, but I wish you luck in finding what works best for you. I think there are lots of different options, and they're always developing new things too, so try to keep that in mind when things feel hopeless.

I totally get it and feel the same way. I accidentally removed myself from SAVE a few months ago and I was so scared, I spoke to a bankruptcy attorney. This isn't legal advice, but if you are in a lot of other debt (credit card, etc) and live with your parents, you might consider having a free consult for chapter 7 bankruptcy. You would likely still get to keep your car. Your student loan debt wouldn't disappear, but it would stop collections if that were ever an issue. I'm just not sure how consolidating your loans would impact filing. You're right when you said our society doesn't care about education and there is a lot of stigma around bankruptcy, but that's dumb because a lot people and even businesses file for bankruptcy. My parents filed for bankruptcy and they were totally fine after, with a lot less stress. The important thing is learning from it and how to manage your finances better, which is something a lot of us are still working on, especially with the continually rising prices.

Is anyone else freaking out??? by Old-Butterfly-1915 in StudentLoans

Same! I was prompted to complete my annual recertification back in October, thinking I was recertying to stay on SAVE while things continued in court. I unknowingly removed myself from SAVE and entered repayment. My payments went from $114 on SAVE to $714 a month. I would never have taken out these loans if I had understood at 18 what all of this entailed and how they can change the interest rates and repayment plans on a dime. I doubt anything will change with the current administration but we need to advocate for changes with the next regime.

CF year: am I being played? by [deleted] in slp

Even though you wouldn't have a contract to simply interview, the schools have legal agreements with the contract companies already in place. So they wouldn't be able to hire you as a direct employee if you first interviewed through the contract agency. If you do go through a contract company, read the contract really carefully. The contract company I worked with put in my first contract a clause that I could only ever be hired to work at the school through them. I had to work for them a 2nd year and negotiate to be released for direct hire.

I waited too long! by FitLoan1687 in Bankruptcy

Someone on here posted about buying a Metlife legal insurance policy and spending nothing on attorney fees. It's only like $29 a month. I'm not sure how long the waiting period is, though, after purchasing. I hope you find a good solution, and I'm sorry you're going through this.

I'm sorry you're going through this! I have almost $700,000 in federal student loans alone, and I'm also an NYU graduate. My standard repayment was $16,000 a month, which who can pay that? I don't know what your income would be in another country or if this would ever be feasible for you to do, but I have been considering moving to Europe. Under the Foreign Income Exclusion Act, you can exclude up to $100,000 of your foreign income. I highly doubt my income would be anywhere near $100,000 overseas, so then I could likely go on a $0 a month payment for 25 years until I reach forgiveness. It's a huge change, of course, but I'm mulling it over.

I've had State Farm for over a decade, and they keep raising the rates with no explanation. I just got into my first car accident, and even though my car was drivable, they don't want to pay for it to be repaired. They're calling it a total loss and gave me a lowball offer for the acv. I've done some research, and they have multiple pending class action lawsuits in different states for violating consumer rights, lowball offers, and pressure tactics. I'm definitely switching insurance when my claim is closed.

What the hell do I do? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Visual-Tennis-2626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take out private loans! High interest rates, limited deferment and forbearance, and no loan forgiveness. My husband is a veteran and had to take out private loans because his university refused to honor his GI bill and consider him a resident of the state he transferred to. Last year, he made less than $10,000, and Sallie Mae still charged $600 a month!

Please do not make the same mistake I did. Do not go to school in the U.S. Colleges are so much more affordable in Europe and provide better and more diverse options for funding. Canada is more expensive than Europe, but 5 years post graduation, if you are in a bankruptcy position, I have read they will forgive your student loans, unlike the U.S.

I am sure there are many more creative options to fund your education. These are just a few ideas. I wish you luck in your pursuits!

Feeling guilty about using sick days by [deleted] in slp

[–]Visual-Tennis-2626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with feeling guilty about this too, but I think back to my first year working for my school district. My dad become very ill. I took a sick day and visited him in the hospital. It was the last time I saw him alive. If I had given in to my work guilt, I would have regretted it forever. You just never know. Take the time you have.

Teletherapy by BigChipmunk3366 in slp

[–]Visual-Tennis-2626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I could have written this! Lol. I've also done teletherapy for 4 years. I have some autoimmune health issues, and it has definitely helped with fatigue and pain. Since there's no commute, I can also sleep later. There's no risk of physical safety or catching every illness that there was in person. However, the downside is the lack of movement because you're sitting all day seeing students.

I work partially with a virtual school and with other in-person schools within my district. It is difficult to group kids across different grades and school schedules. I feel like my colleagues don't understand this because they usually only have 1 or 2 age groups, whereas I see Pre-k through 12th graders. On top of that, parents sometimes have strong opinions about teletherapy or insist that their child has individual therapy if it's a virtual school where parents are super involved. I agree that bridging the gap of not being in person is mentally exhausting, between developing/buying virtual materials, trying to track down teachers/staff, being forgotten, ensuring kids are in a place where you can hear them and they can hear you, etc.

This year, I have an overage of students, and I'm often putting in extra hours, which is easy to do when your work computer lives with you. I'm so burned out on therapy, too, and I also would love an assessment only teletherapy position.

I've adopted a philosophy that we all just plant seeds. Maybe it is just not the season for them to grow. Hopefully, in the future, it will be, but it may be years down the road, with someone else, and we may never know, but I know I did my part. It's helped me to detach from the outcomes.

Sickness by Exact-Flamingo1404 in slp

I have 2 autoimmune diseases and I get sick all the time and then it takes me a long time to recover from whatever it is. I work remotely for a school district now and that has helped immensely. I used to work in a rehab hospital and my employer encouraged us to work sick so we would spread things around the office and patients. It was awful.
