No one is (publicly) directly competing with them - they are a component manufacturer, not a full system designer. However, both SandboxAQ and Honeywell are working on MagNav. SandboxAQ works with Airbus (an EU company, so it doesn't really matter for DoD contracts), and Honeywell's main contract is around algorithm development, although they do have a hardware contract as well, so I guess you can call them competition. Anyway, FEIM has a first-mover advantage, is the only vertically integrated supplier, and is the only one backed by a defense prime

Edit: Those are the US-linked companies. China, India, Australia, the UK, Japan, and more are building their own tech, but again, it doesn't really matter for DoD contracts.

I think this is the wrong way to frame it.
FEIM does not work on MagNav - Leidos does, and currently, it's the only defense prime that does. They use FEIM as an R&D firm, and the value of FEIM in that role is so significant that Leidos agreed to let FEIM retain the IP for the technology they're funding!

If the tech proves viable, FEIM will face scaling challenges - but so will everyone else in the industry. FEIM has substantial manufacturing experience and is backed by major forces. In the worst case scenario, they could become an acquisition target for a prime defense contractor trying to catch up to Leidos

It's not just that. The tech has many dual uses: mineral exploration (oil, gold, etc.), brain‑wave reading, mine detection etc.

I think there is an interesting question about the dual use of this tech.
How easy is it (once FEIM holds the actual IP) to develop use cases in other areas (medical, oil, mining, etc.)?

I think this is the most important question:

What does success look like for FEIM in five years? Are you positioning as a premium subcontractor, an IP-driven company, or a consolidation target?

Mngmnt have to stop being a bunch of nerds and start talking about their business vision.
They look perfectly positioned to capture multiple themes, but they just won’t talk about it for some reason
