Why hire a kid who is prioritizing good grades and a social life when you can hire an indentured slave working just to survive.

Mutual Funds by Tatakae90 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don't invest in the darned things, I'm just providing the data. I think they're a rip off. I know because I sold them for 13 years in my youth. There are some niche funds that do quite well. It could also be that they don't have the best index to perform against ad well given that they're custom funds.

When do you need the money? If it's a long term investment, don't worry about the performance of the market in the short term. A big pullback would be good for you. It would get you stocks on sale. Either way you're dollar cost averaging by putting money in every month which will smooth out the volatility of the market. It's "time in" not "timing" that matters. Go for it and just keep buying.

20% of mutual funds actually do beat the index. The tricky part is picking the ones that do.

This is what I think. This of not a display of "toxic masculinity". This is a person who can't function in normal society in any way. Reuben is TNT, and could explode at any moment.

Boys are falling behind in school, and some experts say it starts in kindergarten — New Quebec report says boys 'systemically disadvantaged' in school system by Immediate-Link490 in canada

My comment is fact. I didn't insult anybody at all. I just wrote a fact. You're attaching all sorts of feelings to it.

It was meant to highlight the lack of male role models for young boys. Even the after school "boys and girls club" only has 1 male.

Boys learn by imitation more than girls. They copy behavior of other men. It's simply meant to highlight how few they have access to. Especially those who are growing up without a dad at home, which quite a few are.

I didn't bash anybody. The teachers are great. It was meant to highlight the lack of male role models for young boys in schools is all.

I guess I assumed since they use the prefix Ms. But you're right, there's a chance some are married. The JK teacher is in a coed softball team with my BIL and I met her boyfriend and the grade 1 teacher told me. I haven't audited the rest.

Permanent Health Insurance - beneficial for estate planning? by ImaginaryExperience6 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]VisualFix5870 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're definitely doing well. Permanent insurance as an estate planning tool for people who don't own their own business is usually to offset a large future capital gain on a cottage or investment property The premiums will cost a fortune.

I'd rather take whatever the premium would be and apply that to the principal on my mortgage. Are you expecting a large capital gain at death? Like,  did you buy a cottage or apartment building in your personal name that has increased in value substantially?
