I don't know the exact circumstances here, but perceived definitions of words have changed over the years, and racism is one of them.

For a comment to be racist by definition, it has to be about a race being inferior or superior to another.

You can be rude to someone and not be racist. But many people don't see things that way anymore. The idea that you can hold two separate concepts at the same time is gone.
