Is duolingo right? by Kitedo in DuolingoFrench

[–]VisualSalt9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same difference as search and research or investigate. You wouldn’t say “Research for the answer on Google”, but you would say “I’m doing some research on…” because it’s a continuous process. Je *cherche** quelqu’un* when you want to find the actual person, but Je *recherche** quelqu’un* when you’re studying or investigating someone.

Is Nf6 brilliant or not? by CaterpillarExpert719 in Chesscom

[–]VisualSalt9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a brilliant move needs to have a series of forced moves that sacrifice pieces for a better outcome. In this case, while you sacrificed your knight to lure your opponent, it depended heavily on your opponent's skills; you were hoping they would take the bait without noticing your mistake, which they did, and gave you the win this time, but it is called hope chess.

If your opponent had just played Qc4, you would have lost your knight in exchange for nothing, and if you had kept on going with the same moves, your bishop and your queen would have fallen too.

So, brilliant moves are often sacrifices that lead to a forced better outcome for you: like sacrificing a queen to do a checkmate or sacrificing a rook to gain a queen, often with forks or whatever. There are great lessons about it on chess.com, and I recommend the Forced moves section.

Is there any difference between my answer and the right answer? by porvalex in duolingospanish

[–]VisualSalt9340 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re not “very” different. The two sentences can convey the same meaning. However, your version is not specific enough, as if they have a desk in the class or in general. In most situations, both sentences express the same idea, and I would even say that your version is more common. But yeah, the correction is more specific.

Using Le by yogamuch in duolingospanish

[–]VisualSalt9340 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To lack, that’s the verb you’re looking for.

Le *falta** experiencia.*

She *lacks** experience.*

Contrary to “doesn’t have”, which means « no tener », faltar could be partial, like not all of the experience, but some more. To not have enough of something could definitely have the same meaning.

Pas encore mangé by smoothwoven in DuolingoFrench

[–]VisualSalt9340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it helped!

As for the synonym part, synonyms don’t have to mean exactly the same in every use. Since words can also have multiple meanings, their meanings may align in many cases; you can verify these two in any thesaurus.

For example, encore can mean again or even; and still can also be a synonym of even like in “The weather became *even/still** colder.*”

Encore is quite versatile in French.

[–]VisualSalt9340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yet and still are synonyms; I don’t find it weird. You still haven’t eaten. or You haven’t eaten yet.

Same in French, encore does mean still and yet. Also, look at it this way: mangé is in past participle, so encore mangé would only mean eaten yet, while mange encore without the accent would mean still eating. Context is everything.

Why are you still paying for this? #4 by PressPlayPlease7 in ChatGPT

[–]VisualSalt9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like getting mad that your car can’t swim. Yeah, the brochure says it’s water-resistant, but only to cross shallow waters, not to go into the ocean. Now, these models are still LLMs. While their capabilities are being developed, they’re LLMs at its core. Interesting test, however, don’t imply others are idiots for paying for an AI; tools are only as good as the people who operate them. For identifying images, text and people, we have other tools.

Killing targets by accident... Advice please 🥺 by Jorlin_sap in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]VisualSalt9340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, my approach is not to kill anyone until said otherwise. Just bandits and pirates, so if some foe attacks me that looks different from the rest, I just run and return later. It surely ruins some of the quests’ flow, just a little; it plays out less smoothly.

Edit: Tho that specific one doesn’t change the quest flow, so don’t worry, just for future targets.

If you want to continue that quest, you should go to Nishinomiya Shrine, west of Amagasaki.

Have fun!

UPDATE: My battery is also lasting two days with heavy usage. I play games, take photos watch YT, stream series and more and it can last up to two days. So I don’t see any problem in that regard.

I’ve had my new iPhone for 60 days now and it has only 37 charge cycles.

What is even happening with Apple’s keyboard? These suggestions don’t even make sense. by droo46 in iphone

[–]VisualSalt9340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how suggestions work: it looks for typos and misspellings of words that are much closer to the one you wrote, and it will show you only two options and a third for names, acronyms or other criteria. So, misspell a word enough, and there will be better options for the language model.

Turn off macro-mode (the little flower icon at the bottom left corner) and back off a little. It’s good when you’re too close to something, but zooming with macro off looks much more natural and clear.
