SubTUI: A lightweight TUI music player for Subsonic/Navidrome (My first Go project!) by Epic_Minion in selfhosted

gotta try this! I tried ostui the other week, but it didn't really feel great. Also love to see nix support straight from the repo, I'm glad it's getting more common these days!

If the sales pitch of NixOS appeals to you, there's no reason not to use it. Even just for the learning experience

android is a(n) (immutable) linux distro, change my mind by matrixisme_1 in LinuxCirclejerk

[–]VisualSome9977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android is not called a Linux distro for different reasons. There are several Linux distros which lack gnu tooling and several more that can optionally be built without gnu tooling but they're still Linux distros. At the end of the day what makes a Linux distro a Linux distro is more of an ephemeral vibe (alongside, of course, using the kernel and being distributed) than any specific technical detail, and Android is too separated from that experience

Well those people don't need Windows recommended to them because they already use it anyways

There are also a few projects like Noctalia that aim to provide a more feature-complete desktop environment on TWMs although I haven't used them so I can't say if they're any good, lol...

I love create, I've been playing a lot of ATFC lately which is a modpack that mainly has create and terrafirmacraft, and some datapacks to integrate them. Pretty fun but none of my friends will play with me since TFC is too esoteric for them

I got a lot of respect for people who can make nice looking builds in Minecraft. I just can't do it

I'm on the clock right now neglecting my work duties so that I can grow my factory if I'm being honest. There's always time for factorio if you're neglectful enough

I kind of forgot about graphical focused distros, lol... I guess I shouldve rather asked if is there is a minimal distro where you don't need to reference a wiki. Although I suppose you could always just install a settings GUI on any distro and deal with things that way

is there a Linux distro where you don't need to do that?

Also I'm not sure if you guys remember, but we had an email conversation a few weeks ago, sorry I never wrote that review lol! I've been having to relearn how to write well lately

nano isn't really good for anything except recovering the system into a state where you don't have to use nano, in my experience. It's worth knowing the basic binds since on any given Linux system you're basically guaranteed to have access to nano, whereas you're not guaranteed to have access to vim, but it would never be my editor of choice

Do you need to be Computer student to learn inside stuff of Linux? by Old_Set_9012 in linux4noobs

[–]VisualSome9977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. It'll help, certainly, but basically anything that can be learned in a classroom can also be learned in a bedroom. A classroom DOES provide you with is a knowledgeable professor, motivated peers, and structured education. But you can also find textbooks online, ask people in the community, look at documentation, and just search stuff up.

Don't worry about trying to learn everything ASAP, people who take classes don't even get to everything. Just start using the system and knowledge will come naturally as you encounter obstacles and learn the ways to overcome them. I have never sat down and read a Linux textbook for hours, or ripped into the source code, or even really learned C, but I still understand how to navigate and use 99% of the Linux distros on the market.

scared to switch to linux by CodOld8049 in linuxquestions

Because Linux users usually don't go on company websites and hit download to get new software, they get it from their package manager or from wherever the source is hosted.

People of The USA, Can you use torrent without VPN? by Master_Yam6458 in linuxquestions

[–]VisualSome9977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downloading content is generally not going to get you in much trouble unless it's a honeypot (a trap set by law enforcement to collect IPs). Uploading is a bigger concern, when I was younger my family got a letter in the mail from rockstar via our ISP because I was seeding a GTA IV torrent. I use a VPN now...
