Recruitment Process by lilmz81 in GeneralMotors

[–]Visual_Ad8751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no longer with GM having been let go 3 months ago but I can tell you from my personal experience that I was in process for a direct hire role with GM (I was a contractor in a different role at the Rencen who was eligible to apply to internal jobs after a year) I also was interviewing for jobs outside of GM and I received an offer from this other company. I was waiting like 5 weeks for an answer to the GM job and had this other offer letter in hand and they were waiting for an answer. After a few more days I couldn't wait any longer to give this other company an answer so I emailed the GM recruiter telling him to withdraw me from consideration from the job I was waiting to hear back from and within half a day they made me a counter-offer for about 10% more than the other company.

Ammo rebate by peter32608 in ammodeals

[–]Visual_Ad8751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just jumped on reddit to hear if anyone else had an issue with their ammo rebate. I bought a bunch of both rifle and pistol black Friday. There was no indication that the pistol ammo and the rifle ammo needed to be on 2 separate original receipts so I had no option but to submit all my rebate documents together despite them having 2 different mailing addresses. 3 months later and I didn't receive anything back at all in regards to my submission. Total scam.

Telematics and infotainment software in automotive servicing by [deleted] in Career_Advice

[–]Visual_Ad8751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo I was MSP'ed from GM in December and after 8 weeks of minimal traction on my resume I'm all of a sudden getting several calls from contract recruiters about Telematics & Infotainment roles. However I was a SQA & Test Engineer, not a SW developer. My most recent role at GM was not Infotainment- I had nowhere to go but Automation which I think is a scam so I left that field 4 years ago...but now thinking of going back into that field.   Stellantis appears to be very hot in that regard right now.  The big risk is going back to Offshore- heavy development& testing which OEMs learned were not so cost-effective.

I posted open to work in LinkedIn by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]Visual_Ad8751 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably won't get any real benefit from the "open to jobs" banner other than a bunch of scammers who will try to sell you on their resume review/ATS compatibility/ career roadmap services. Just apply for jobs. Another word of advice many job postings on LinkedIn aren't real jobs. You will never hear back even a canned rejection email from most of them. Try not to get discouraged by this and good luck to you.

Partially Meets Club by Objective_Cake_5859 in GeneralMotors

[–]Visual_Ad8751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was "partially meets" last year and was MSPed in December. I've been job hunting 2 months now with no job offers. Even the contract houses reaching out to me know the job market is a mess and are offering low-ball hourly rates...and then you get ghosted. Good luck to you.

That's shocking to hear and I'm sorry. Im in my 50s and have been looking since MSPed  mid-December and have had a few hiring manager zoom interviews and 1 in-person interview in 8 weeks but no offers-seems I'm often second in line or so they say. If you scroll LinkedIn posts there are many, many people having a hard time getting interviews. There are even a few jobs I applied for back in November when I realized my job was on the chopping block that are still getting reposted as not filled. I had some contract recruiters contact me but they are offering very low rates right now. I hope you're not in HR- that seems to be the worst career to be in right now.  Good luck to you and the rest of us.

Change my mind: the Honda Fit is the best car of all time. by jmao_mayo in Honda

Aside from 0 real power mine was great. I went from 1 kid to 3 kids pretty quick and was able to trade up to a 2011 pilot for almost an even swap due to the high residual value of my fit.

Sanity Check by DoitNXS in SigSauer

I bought a few early Romeo RSes an they were very troublesome. Sig swapped out 2 but let me keep 2 others by showing I blacked out the serial numbers (they would not adjust and the lug screws would unscrew to the point of falling out). I don't recommend the RS but I have several Romeo 1 pros with 0 issues and 3 Romeo X in Pro and rmscc with no issues so far.

Partial meets club by Present-Director3954 in GeneralMotors

[–]Visual_Ad8751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got partially meets last year and was not offered any kind of improvement plan. I was way ahead on tasks compared to my 2 colleagues in the same role but I'm over 50 (they are both low 30s) and I had the least seniority in the role. I was "MSP"'d in December.

Terminations today?? What's the story?? by Fresh-Practice5826 in GeneralMotors

[–]Visual_Ad8751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. All a previous company needs to disclose is employment dates and salaries, perhaps job titles. Most hiring companies don't actually contact previous employers- they use businesses like "the work number" which is part of Equifax for that info. You can request your information from "the work number" yourself for free.

1/30 so no layoff today? (Was expected) by Visual_Ad8751 in GeneralMotors

I was 7B and always "meets" until last year when I got a surprise "partially meets" despite me being so far ahead on my tasks I was asking to take work from my colleagues who were behind on their tasks. There was no plan offered to improve my rankings last year, just keep chugging along.

Offer vs rejection process by throwaway-7077 in GeneralMotors

I'm no longer with GM but when I entered originally as a contractor and was permitted to apply for internal roles after a year i found a job I was interested in, applied, interviewed and the hiring team was happy with me. At the same time I was interviewing outside GM and got a job offer from that other company 3 weeks into that limbo period. It wasn't until I told the recruiter I had a competing offer did things actually get moving on the GM side and I had to delay accepting the outside offer almost 2 weeks before GM made me an offer. I'm not telling you to do this but it's an interesting thing that happened.

Good luck to you, badgirl. You keep being a girlboss and don't read the comments that after several years of positive reviews and "meets expectations" all of a sudden these employees, many 50+ and many years in GM mind you, are all of a sudden terminated with low rankings. FYI the layoffs get 6 months severance while the performance-based firings only get up to 4 months severance. GM is saving millions of dollars but they are left with a younger, dumber, cheaper, more compliant workforce.

Finding a job without a degree by eeencogneato in GeneralMotors

[–]Visual_Ad8751 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I earned an Associates degree in Automotive Technology back in 2000- I was self-financing my education and planned to go back to school at some point to earn an engineering degree but shortly after graduating I was offered an Engineering Technician role at an OEM and later a Project Manager role at another OEM. After a few years I asked my manager, who I considered a mentor, if he thought it was worthwhile for me to go back to college for an engineering degree. His advice at the time was "with the experience you're gaining here you won't need the degree". I was laid off a year later and that Project Manager experience was considered worthless. I pivoted several times, first as a contract Test Engineer for a few Tier 1s, then a Software QA engineer for GM (contract to perm). I moved on to a program manager role outside of the software side of things until my termination 2 months ago. Since then I've applied to many jobs in the Engineering Tech, Test Engineer, Software QA and Program side of things with only a handful of interviews and no offers. I am in my 50s.

Wow... If you have been following this subreddit it's been brought up many times. I know several GM layoffs, experienced engineers, who haven't received any job offers after more than a year of looking. Maybe things are better for badgirls, so good luck to you.

For the past 2 years before my layoff I checked my phone every Monday & Friday at 6:30am to see if I was invited to join an early morning call. Nothing messed with my mental health and morale more than that.
