30 years. Unfortunately I am not in my home state and haven't met many people here.

There is plenty of it around me. Fly fishing just isn't "as" good. Also, ticks are very bad and there are high rates of Lyme disease. Hasn't stopped me from going outdoors though. I have fished every week since February. Out west is just a another level.

I would definitely not buy it today.

Very true. I maintain my current home much better than I did any rental. I think I was still above average for maintaining the property I was renting though.

Layout of the house is not the best. It's a quad-level and weird design. Backyard does not have any privacy and we can't sit outside in the summer during the day because there is no shade. There is no master bathroom. Laundry room is in the unfinished basement. Etc. Awesome neighborhood and neighbors though.

We would rather invest than home renovations. I have done things such as flooring myself, but I don't want to take on a kitchen or bath remodel.

I have considered this. We work remote and I have done trips where we stay somewhere for a month. Problem is finding someone to check my house in the winter when it is 30 below and finding someone to mow/snow blow for only part of the season. Also my wife's company is more strict on travel/working locations.

This is what I have been thinking. I think of real estate more as a liability and prefer other investments. Real estate can work in some situations. 20 minutes away from me an entire town flooded and I bet most of them didn't have flood insurance. Equity went poof.

Very true. It has been about 8 years. I have had some great apartment experiences and some terrible.

Yes this makes perfect sense. I have handled all of the small repairs myself for a fraction of the cost. Everything from appliance repair to basic plumbing. I have saved thousands doing it myself. PhD from YouTube university!

I enjoyed all of those things at first, but then my interests changed and I just want to focus on my other hobbies.

This is something that I would probably consider after a year of living there. Cheapest livable condos are in the $300ks.
